Let My Love Open The Door

When people keep repeating
That you'll never fall in love
When everybody keeps retreating
But you can't seem to get enough
Let my love open the door
Let my love open the door
Let my love open the door
To your heart
When everything feels all over
When everybody seems unkind
I'll give you a four-leaf clover
Take all the worry out of your mind
Let my love open the door
Let my love open the door
Let my love open the door
To your heart I have the only key to your heart
I can stop you falling apart
Try today, you'll find this way
Come on and give me a chance to say
Let my love open the door
It's all I'm living for
Release yourself from misery
Only one thing's gonna set you free
That's my love
Let my love open the door
Let my love open the door
Let my love open the door
To your heart
When tragedy befalls you
Don't let them bring you down
Love can cure your problem
You're so lucky I'm around
Let my love open the door
Let my love open the door
Let my love open the door
To your heart

Let My Love Open The Door was, and remains, one of my all time favorite pearl jam covers. The only song I'd definitely put ahead of if is Baba O Riley. Pearl Jam's covers are almost always excellent because they have so much respect for the songs that they are singing and the artists who wrote them, but I think this one stands out for the tangible joy that comes across in every version that they did. The band is just thrilled to be playing this song and it shows. Beyond that, this is one of those few places where they really reinvented a song as well. Usually the stuff they do is pretty faithful to the original, but here they took a slow keyboard song and turned it into a fast, upbeat guitar song that's all joy and no aggression--an interesting accomplishment in and of itself since most of Pearl Jam's faster songs have that edge to them. So it's nice to see them make this one their own, and I'll never understand why this isn't in heavy rotation

4 stars

i think they only played it on the 95 tour, which is the worst PJ tour on the books methinks (except for the 4 times they played this)

can anyone link it?

YouTube of Perth '95.

I love PJ's rockin' version of this song. They transformed it from a lukewarm sub-disco tune. The problem is that Ed's voice was maybe at it's worst during this tour. Still, Ed's aggressive vocals are better than the thin lifeless Pete Townshend vocals. And they always do seem like they're having a great time when they play it.

Not on this one, which is why I love it so much.

good choice, stip. this is a favorite of mine as well. and it so closely mirrors a situation thats been with me for quite a while now. as far as covers go, i give it a 3.5... rounded up to a 4.

Second that.
I never thought of Let My Open the Door as a "fun" song per se but they seem to be having a blast on that one; the only version of theirs I've heard.

You know, this was one of my favorite covers of theirs when I first heard it in the mid 90's, but now I've just heard it so many 1000's of times that I rated it as average...

It's true that the rarer the cover, the better! :D

I voted 3, but meant 4. Really good cover though not as good as the original.

Uh, how is Let My Love Open the Door a "slow keyboard song"?

Pete Townshend's original solo version from 82? From what I remember, it's snappy and upbeat and it's got some acoustic guitars in it. Organ too. But nothing I would call slow.

Unless there's another version out there I've never heard.
