Hey Jammers!

It looks like Pearl Jam played every song from Ten except for one on the 2008 PJ Tour.

A Deep question for you because Inquiring Minds Need To Know:

Which versions played during the 2008 Pearl Jam tour do you think was the BEST version from WHICH show that they did of EACH Ten song played?

Love,
Kat and Sea

My initial guess is it's for a Deep magazine feature, but who knows- they may possibly be soliciting opinions for some sort of official release down the road.

So, what's your picks?

I've read this five times and it still doesn't make sense.

You are right, that doesn't make a damn bit of sense.

They want you to list your favorite performance of each song from Ten that they played on this past tour.

For example:
Best version of "once" was on this date @ this place
Best version of "even flow" was ""

and so on

The point is,
Quote:

Is too damn wordy.

Could have just been easily stated as,

It seems that all but one of the songs from the album TEN was played, which versions played during the 2008 Pearl Jam tour do you think was the best?

Oh my, that can't be anything good.
That's so "has been" and nostalgia :shake:

Ok I don't really love 10 but even people who do usually don't care about current renditions of songs from it.

Ha, surely you jest...

I definitely think there's some kind of deluxe or anniversary edition of Ten coming up, what with this and:

If they're doing a disc of live versions, they'll be making a huge fuck-up if they put 2008 versions of the Ten songs on there - they should stick to '91 - '92 versions, in my opinion.

we do this every year in the live forum in one way or another anyway. but you are right, ten sounded better live in the early 90s. i hope they do this with every album though.

Just have O'Brien remaster the rest of Ten and re-release it.

Problem solved.

Or not release or "re-release" an album everyone already owns.

Really?

I must be in the minority here, but I'm not a fan of his remixes of the Ten stuff at all.

Ten sounds perfectly fine as it is, any remix or remaster of it will surely be compressed and limited to within an inch of its life and be virtually unlistenable (like the Greatest Hits and S/T albums).

you are in the minority. The BoB remixes from RVM are exceptional

Yeah but that's different than the 10C/band doing it. What's the point of doing anything with it especially after the whole tour is released. As far as I remember they did almost the whole VS. too.
That's something inactive bands would do and it would still be quite pointless especially the part about the "vintage" memorabilia.
Well, OK I'm kind of overreacting.
I think Jeff said a couple of years ago that he'd like to do a completely remixed 10 btw.
The anniversary is still a relatively long time (20th) so I don't think it has anything to do with this.

I wouldn't be so sure about that, bands release "deluxe editions" of their past work all the time without needing to align with an anniversary of the original release.

Especially given the hint about doing something coming up with the Ten-era memorabilia...

Maybe another live DVD with the most boring tracklist ever, like last one.

Pretty much every song in the catelog sounded the best live in the tours following it's release. Listen to Given To Fly in 1998, it's the bees knees. It's pretty damned close in 2000, and only slightly less amazing in 2003. By 2006 it was sped up and Eddie's voice wasn't nearly as good. This trend is also pretty apparent if you listen to Corduroy throughout the different tours.

I was listening to 8/29/00 today and I gota say I miss Porch played without the slow first verse. And the 3 minute version of Crazy Mary is so much better than 4 minutes of crazy mary + 3 minutes of Boom. And why can't we hear Mike nearly as much these last 2 or 3 years as much as we could in the past? It's like his levels on the board are down way too much throughout the songs, and then during the solos they don't even crank him up.

This post probably makes no sense and if it does I probably sound like I hate everything the band has done recently. Not true, I actually really liked the 2008 tour, and think s/t is pretty solid despite it's shitty production. I just hope BoB knows enough not to let the levels clip the whole time.

Well often is either an anniversary or the recording company doing specials for a lot of their artists like Sony's Legacy Editions from a couple of years back where 10 would logically fit (assuming as with most bands the label under which it was released still beholds publishing rights). Emi had something similar too.

Still releasing deluxe editions is usually something bands do when they have pretty much given up on their artistic future or celebrate an anniversary with but is still cashing-in with a lame excuse.
This is like they are ready to brake up after the next album+tour and go in cash-on-glorious-past mode.
Besides they would have to promote it like crazy for it to make sense financially. It's not like 10 is considered to be an essential album outside of it's early 90's "grunge" context.
Besides they have a catalogue full of albums that would benefit of re-mastering and actual dynamics. With 10 is a matter of taste because of the reverb. I actually like the dynamics and acoustics on 10. The modern over-compression would make it sound like crap. A lot of producers/engineers complain about current standards. There are threads about it here somewhere with links to articles.

They mix from multi tracks anyway meaning whoever is mixing the bootlegs could easily crank him up.

damn, I wish I wasn't still 'suspended' (on a permanent basis by the look of it..3 months and counting) because I'd give them a piece of my mind about Deep being missing!!!!!!! (I want to hear that song, they haven't played it in the 3 years I've been touring  )

though Dirty Frank is also missing (I'm Euro! Wash and Dirty Frank ARE Ten songs!)

I don't know what they're getting at but it doesn't sound good.. trying to get back people for whom the highlight of PJ is Ten is counter-productive..

and for Alive, frankly makes no difference which of any of the show they pick.. easy to find even, it's always in the 2nd encore 3rd or second to last song (gosh was I tiring of the predictability of it ..to the point I did call Mamasan the first notes of the first song of it, both time..and I'm nowhere near the kind of knowledgeable nerds that are out there!).
