Okay granted they haven't even come close to starting principle photography yet, but I'm so fucking excited for this project. I'm a monster Holmes fan as it is, and this'll be Ritchie's follow up flick to the one that's returning him to his roots of the London crime underworld (RocknRolla).
Plus we've now got a set duo. Sherlock Holmes = Robert Downey, Jr. Dr. John Watson = Jude Law.

What else did Guy Ritchie do other than LS & Snatch? I vaguely recall seeing something on the shelves of a Blockbuster a while back that looked like another crime film with Jason Statham (and I don't mean the Bank Heist).

I'm hoping the style Ritche brought to Lock Stock and Snatch isn't present in the movie (that fast paced editing). I've only seen those two, so I don't know what else he is capable of. I mean for God sake Sherlock Holmes took place in the 19th century, I would assume a nice methodical murder mystery.

Well after Snatch he made the monumentally ill-fated decision of directing his dog of a wife in the remake of "Swept Away" that was a bigger bomb than half of the detonations in Gaza on a daily basis. The other Statham flick that was next was "Revolver", which, from what I know of it, it's also in the crime genre, but people who've seen it say it's just one extremely weird ass piece of whatever, and not very good. So like I said, with "RocknRolla" he's in the crime world, but advanced word is he's back to the quality as well of LS and Snatch.

They said they're taking a bit more of an action oriented approach then you might otherwise be used to with the character, one of the reasons they nabbed RDJ. Not like full on, mind you, no doubt it'll still have a decent cerebral side to it, but make no mistake it won't be your Jeremy Brett's Holmes.
Actually in typical 1-2 Hollywood punch fashion this isn't the only SH project going, Judd Apatow is making a comedic take with Sasha Baron Cohen as Holmes and Will Ferrell as Watson. But until I see footage, I honestly couldn't much care about it. I'm looking forward to Ritchie's 100% more.

You see that from time to time in Hollywood. Someone decides to make a film about something, so then another studio signs up another project just like it.
Lame.

a guy ritchie movie with no Jason Statham?
No good
ya they are made for eachother, statham's other non ritchie movies are all shit too.
Robert Downey Jr. sounds like a great casting choice, but it does seem all his roles are chosen because he was a drug addict (pretty sure holmes was) besides his acting skills.

even though he is doing Benjamin Button which is a period film for the most part, I still think David Fincher should have done this film. Then again he would be dealing with too many murder mystery movies.
