Are they not men? They are the Killers! Best I can figure, the people I know who take these Las Vegas rockers at least halfway-seriously generally expose themselves to more non-blog media than I do, so they've probably got hits like "When You Were Young" or "Mr. Brightside" imprinted in their subconsciousnesses alongside pleasant memories of watching "The O.C." or playing "Guitar Hero". I never quite got the hype, and "Human", from the Las Vegas band's forthcoming Day & Age, doesn't help. Does make me want to reach for M83's Saturdays=Youth, though.

Prickly guitar arpeggios, four-on-the-floor house beats, and warm, comforting synths surround Brandon Flowers' voice on this bit of catchy prom-night melodrama. "Are we human? Or are we dancers?" the singer asks, adding meaninglessly, "My sign is vital." I sometimes wonder whether rehashed 1980s synth-pop nostalgia might not prove more effective than the real thing 10 years from now, because when we listen to it we'll get the reminiscence double-whammy of not only our distant childhoods but also our carefree young adulthoods (some of us were too little to develop a meaningful attachment to Tears for Fears the first time anyway). Still, if being human implies a certain degree of ingenuity, I'm not sure about the robotically predictable move of using a vocoder-style background effect when Flowers asks whether he is one. Which I guess means these guys are human after all, just like Daft Punk. I'll take Cher's "Believe", thanks.

The song link doesn't work...but I'll admit that there is no Killers song that I don't like. I don't love them all, but I enjoy listening to their entire catalog. I just like how their songs are put together...

Glamorous Indie Rock & Roll and River is Wild are two favs.

I am looking forward to hearing "Human" and the new album.

I love The Killers.

I hated the cover of Ruby Don't Take Your Love To Town. But I like it now, compared to Human. That in and of itself speaks volumes.
