I only listened to about half of "The Forest" on the myspace page. From listening to that amount my opinion is that it isn't better than anything on Bayleaf.

I like his work with Brad and the album Bayleaf. I listened a little more at Jeff's myspace. Better than the first listen, but still not sure I'll buy the album.

To be brutally honest - It isn't good. In fact I'm not sure I'll listen to it again considering how good the new Metallica album is. It is way worse than Bayleaf and Jeff just can't sing - yes he is more in tune this time but he is not a singer. One of the songs sounds almost identical to God's Dice and others are unremarkable. This is definitely a 'fan only' record as there are plenty of better albums to spend your money on.
It's not my best record of the year but to say it isn't good depends on your taste. For instance, I love Bayleaf and I don't like Metallica's new one that much. It's good, but I happen to like shorter songs and less 'more of the same'. For someone who is not a singer Jeff does it okay, in my opinion. Musically this is a diverse and interesting album. I've only listened twice but I'm not throwing the album away yet .
groetjes, Mirella
I'm sorry but the 'taste card' can't be played ad infinitum. If my nephew recorded himself singing a Green Day song, which he is known to do, it would sound shit; it would have nothing to do with 'my taste'.
This album just isn't up to the standards of a major/indie label release in terms of song-writing - I am sure there will be lots of fans who like it because it is Jeff, which is cool, but don't pretend that 75% of it isn't very average - he could have at least pulled in Eddie on one song (fanboy comment, but c'mon everyone wishes that Wes C. Addle had a vocal credit in the liner notes rather than Dug Pinnick). I also wasn't comparing the two (that would be a tad unfair to Jeff - 4 against 1) - I was just making sure people aren't spending their hard earned money on this when they could experience better aural pleasure from many other current and past musical releases.

I'm really liking Say Goodbye and Hi-Line.

it was a little better than i was expecting. i absolutely can't stand sweet lew, and really didn't care for Just wanna have something to do, so the price and free shipping had a lot to do with me actually getting this. I don't regret it as I do listen to it at work, and maybe in that setting as background music, it's good to listen to (i'm on the phone and computer most of the day). but to blast it on the way to or from work in the car, i doubt that will happen too often. I'm a much bigger fan of Bayleaf and the recently made available Your Flames. My expcetations for Stone's next solo album are much higher than they were for this one, but it was worth the $10 i guess... as a side, thanks for all of you who posted about the pick- i actually went and dug the envelope out of the trash as i would have had no idea there was a pick in there had it not been for the fabulous people at RM!!

i heard it twice and like it...yeah jeff is some cool guy who had some tunes there and can pack them yup in a cd and sell them through the web...i really think is as good as frusciante´s to record only water for then days for example... the songs on bayleaf have a different, more classic, structure...we even have some dub or reggae there... Tone is really expermiental, some songs sound like they have a chance of being really really good with a live band, some others are good like that... the only thing i regret is that i would adore to have some more ambiental , chill out songs and some more upright bass here..stuff like that from jeff would have been amazing... but that keeps me waiting for more of course!

Pre-sale of Avocado was 10C only. Benaroya vinyl was 10C only. Tone, Into The Wild, and Immagine in Cornice presales may have all been 10C only. I think the SE Pearl Jam vs. Ames Bros. was 10C only as well.
Dude! That was totally in the wrong thread!!

Finally, the fucker arrived. Didn't think I'd get a plectrum (pick, for you non-muso speakers) with it, as I ordered a shirt as well, but I did. Haven't listened yet, but I love how it's packaged like a gatefold vinyl LP. It even has the plain white inner paper slipcase like a vinyl. Great job. Too bad the artwork itself is shite, though.
