I love the very beginning of this song. The part before the AAHHHAHHHHAHHHHHHHAAAA! with the 2-3-4 count in, the palpable analogue whir, Page's left channel goodness and Bonham's right foot plus snare mirror of the melody. JPJ's performance is almost physical, perfectly captured and practically timeless.
I have always had a soft spot in my heart for this song. There are so many different riffs going on here that they are almost working at cross purposes and the rhythm sometimes feels like the downbeat is crawling across the bar.

Oh my tears they fell like rain. Did they ever top this performance over the next ten years? Maybe not.
First time I've heard this song, I was high. I think I must have replayed it 30-35 times in a row cause it totally blew my mind. Back in the napster days, I searched all the live versions I could find but as zeb said, not a single version equals the studio one.

4/1/71 Paris Cinema, London. Same show as on BBC disc 2.
But I agree that the album version has moments that cannot be replicated.

Another case of unusual syncopation. I LOVE the second half and would have been happy with a longer drone/loop of this to close the album.
I love when somebody yells "Stop!" during one of the verses in this song
