If Pearl Jam released an album exclusively at WalMart, would you buy it?

No, I'd wait until it popped up on ebay. then i wouldnt have to walk into wal-mart and get that chill running up my spine. AC/DC's new one is only in wal-mart?

fuck yeah! i don't care what store carry's it, even if it's exclusively. i'm going into that store, and coming out with a cd/lp/cassette/8-track (even in doubles) & a pack of hubba bubba gum. ha.
with all the news & stories about how walmart treats their employee's & everybody boycotting that store (never shopping there again) yada yada yada .. well, here's something they should read: reader's discreation is totally advised:
if you don't like your job. think the pay sucks? think you're working under hitler's rule? then .. "WHY ARE YOU STILL WORKING THERE??? quite? find a new job. it's your choice. nobody has a gun to your head. to find a better job, search. go online. no net? go to your local social office or library or go back to school. not hard is it? or no will power to do it & you're stuck? remember .. YOU HAVE A CHOICE, use it wisely.

I'd buy it, but feel a little dirty (more for the fact that PJ released an 'exclusive only' record than the wal-mart thing)

Why not? You think a band like ACDC is going to get a nice big poster and display at your local mall teeny bopper record store? At least Walmart will push their record a little....who cares if a band does an exclusive.

It would show that they are more concerned about the money than the art. Bands need to promote their music but these sort of exclusives suck.

If Pearl Jam offered an album exclusively at Wal-Mart, it could be that they're no longer the band that I enjoyed.

Fundamentally there's not much difference between an exclusive at Wal-Mart and what they did with Easy Street. I doubt the average employee at your indie record store gets paid any better than a Wal-Mart employee or has a better health plan.

I'd think of the easy street record as more of a benefit--and a live show bothers me less as well. This is more analagous to only releasing lolla via itunes. I don't like that much either, but I can deal with it for a live show. An actual studio record is a much more important event and I'd like to see as wide a distribution as possilbe

Going Wal-Mart exclusive did not hurt The Eagles - Long Road Out of Eden. If you're going to go exclusive Wal-mart is the store to go exclusive with. Pearl Jam has already showed working conditions is not a hinderance to going exclusive. At least with Wal-Mart it would be an exclusive open to pretty much everyone and the album would receive promotion.

Art huh? From the band that wrote I Got Big Balls? How does the distribution model have anything to do with the quality of the album? Can a band not try to make an amazing piece of music and still maximize their profits? Why must art and making money be mutually exclusive?

lol, I was meaning Pearl Jam not AC/DC
You know what you are absolutely right, there shouldn't really be an issue with that but if Pearl Jam did do this it would show that they are absolutely no longer the same band I fell in love with.
It wouldn't matter if they wrote the greatest album of all time, it would still hurt that they were now simply interested in the money after spending so long showing that they were not careerists.
