The Dark Knight?
The movies with stars next to them I predict will be a lock in for best picture. Not even close as rich of year as 2007, but hey, we're no longer in the 1970s. Have to make do with what we have.
Wow, you think Wall-E is a "lock" for a Best Picture nom? I don't see that happening at all. Animated, sure, but not overall. I thought when seeing EW's recent breakdown that it wasn't even in the "possibles" category.
I am however looking forward to seeing Fincher get his first Best Director nod and Pitt get his first Best Actor nod. And yea, I guess it would be cool to see Ledger win Best Supporting Actor.
And I just had a feeling that the Academy will want to make up for the lost opportunities with other Pixar films. And there is a first time for everything.
oh and to TJ, as far as not recognizing any titles -- remember, it's not at all uncommon for the bulk of the films genuinely up for real awards consideration to come out at the end of the year, and even in limited release at that. PLENTY of times it's happened in the past where the studio gives a film a limited release in literally like just a couple of theatres in NY and/or LA for just a week right before the qualifying window (& I'm not entirely sure what that is, btw) just so it can be eligible for the Oscars, then the wider release comes later.
As you may or may not know, I'm really into the paranormal etc, and Eastwood is going to be directing a supernatural thriller called HereAfter, and supposedly it is in the same realm as Sixth Sense (aka methodical build up, no special effects, character development).
Eastwood does no wrong. Just because of this I hope he gets nominated again.
really good couple of trailers for Revolutionary Road. I'm feeling quite strongly about Dicaprio and this movie winning. Perhaps Kate Winslet as well.
Will the 6th time be the charm for Katie? Well I mean I've said this in other threads, Kate Winslet's long been my dream girl, always will be. The perfect woman. Titanic to me was actually by far the worst performance of her career (it's kinda hard when you've got shit dialog to work with, but thats Cameron for ya). I've always dug DiCaprio, and Sam Mendes is a solid 3-for-3 so far (his only real fault being the rat bastard married the love of my life )
