This is not Uncut's album of the year, this was voted on by industry people. It's an award in the vein of a Q award or a Grammy or whatever. The only member of Uncut who voted was the editor Allan Jones. The magazine did come up with the shortlist though.

Quote:
Fleet Foxes were unanimously hailed by a panel of industry judges which included broadcaster Mark Radcliffe and ex EMI chief executive Tony Wadsworth, at a judging session in November to choose the overall winner from eight shortlisted albums.

And for those who want to know, this award includes albums released between september 2007 and August 2008.

I haven't heard all the albums on that list, but I have Fleet Foxes and Radiohead (and a couple others) -- there's no way Fleet Foxes beats In Rainbows. Just no way.

I like Fleet Foxes more than In Rainbows. Beautiful harmonies on that record. And I didn't know the lead singer/writer is only 22 years old.

i much prefer Fleet Foxes to In Rainbows too, but IR was a 2007 album for me anyway (was in my top 10 last year)

pretty amazing for Justin (Bon Iver)

but there's still a good month and a half and plenty of potentially great releases left this year, seems a bit premature

new Kanye West is out in a few weeks, that's pretty much it unless Grizzly Bear or the Doves pull something together (I was hoping for something in 08 from both those groups)

OK. Am I just being an anal little bitch to keep insisting that For Emma is 2007 record?

I've been tempted to put MGMT but that probably won't work

These lists are always exactly the same, I don't know why they bother.

No, not at all. I'll insist that forever. Released in 2007=2007 record. A re-release doesn't make it a 2008 album. It was a bigger distribution deal, that's it. If you counted that, you'd count tons of old albums being reissued, but no one in their right mind does that.

Also, am I the only one who thinks that the Fleet Foxes album is only mediocre? I loved the EP but the LP runs on way too long and gets really bland.

I agree with Winter's Love about Fleet Foxes, but I think you should be able to count a CD as whatever year it came out in your area, within reason.

I mean, use your heads, folks.
