about twenty feet away
(and thats if we're lucky)
always lurking behind the hedge
smelling like sweat and cheap whiskey
i might be wrong
bud i'd say aunt theresa was up to something

that wooden train wasnt built
for our fun alone

three story shed out back
reminded me of a mansion
a stronghold, a prison
but not for aunt theresa,
no, dont you think that for a second
it was for uncle will
uncle will...

this ones about the old guy who used to live next door when i lived in the city. i was just a kid then, and didnt really grasp the fact that he was an alchy and kind of out of touch with things. he married a younger woman who was sort of a gold digger. one night, outside my window i saw flashing red lights and could hear voices. turns out mr will had gotten drunker than normal and fallen down the concrete stairs behind his house and died. after that, the lady he married built a huge garage (almost as big as the house) and completely renovated the property.

my sisters and i call him 'uncle' will because it really irks our mother

i forgot to explain the part about the wooden train.

the dude built one of those little train deals that kids can play on, like the ones they have on kindergarten playgrounds. all made of wood. he spent a while building it, right on the other side of the hedge... we couldnt see what was going on but we could hear the drilling, the cursing, and the tools clanking around as he dropped them. thing is.. he didnt have any grandkids or kids of his own, and there werent many kids on the street either. my sister and i would play on it sometimes when he wasnt home but we were told NEVER to go over there if invited.

jcurley, your sig reminded me... this whole part gave me a very 'whats he building in there' impression.
