Budget plan cuts veterans’ benefits

LES BLUMENTHAL; The News Tribune
Last updated: February 25th, 2005 02:40 AM
WASHINGTON – More than 10,000 Washington state veterans could face a $1,000-a-year increase for their medical care under a Bush administration budget proposal, a veterans advocacy group says.

And state officials warn that the White House spending plan could force out roughly half of the 600 residents at Washington’s three veterans homes, possibly resulting in the closure of one of them.

My GI Bill benefits have gone up significantly under Bush. I'd gladly give that money back however for a new President.

Ya know, I'm really starting to sense that you don't like GW. I don't know, maybe it's just me.

I'm starting to think you're not really 14 years old.

I thought this was going to be about the ungodly number of variations of those ribbon stickers I see on cars. Yes, you support the troops. We get it.

Nobody's making "Fuck the Troops" stickers yet. I think we could make a mint!

I've had this thought as well, if only just to piss these other people off. Luckily, I have a sense of decency and respect for our troops. I just don't need to share that with everyone driving behind me.

I'd really be afraid of pissing off someone w/ access to a rocket launcher.

Far and away the best way I've seen someone supporting the troops was with one of these:

This week's Onion editorial:

Are these really so bad? I disagree with the war on Iraq but I also think people need to be reminded that this country can never treat returning veterans like they did with Vietnam.

However, it’s sad that a lot of the profits from sales are going directly to the pockets of your local store and not the troops. And also the Support Our Troups ribbons with the little cross in the middle make me want to puke.

Maybe the simple yellow ribbon stickers weren't so bad. I swear, I've seen a car with 5 different variations, from camo to red, white, and blue stripes with an eagle in the center. It sickens me. If you truly want to support the troops, donate the money you've wasted on adorning your gas guzzling SUV to a veterans' charity.
