Rice cut by Seahawks

http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/3421238

As much as I respect Jerry Rice, and normally don't mind athletes staying if they still have the fire, it's painful to watch the greatest receiver of all time go through this. We know you love the game and have alot of pride Jerry, but ask the Niners to sign you to a one day contract and call a press conference please.

This just in: The AARP has also cancelled Jerry Rice's membership for being TOO OLD.

I love Jerry Rice and I was so excited when he signed with the Seahawks.

Heh, that is what I was thinking.

I may be in the minority here, but if he wants to play and a team wants him to play for them, fine by me. It won't take anything away from the amazing career he has had.

Hit the nail on the head there.

I'd take him on as a possession reciever.

Yeah, and normally that's how I feel, but when he gets released from two teams in one year, neither of whom exactly have deep or really good WR corps, it is somewhat painful to see. I agree it won't tarnish his legacy if he keeps playing, but I just hate to see him as a 3rd or 4th WR for some team getting 20 catches a season.

Come to Atlanta. Crumpler needs some help. Price was/is not the answer.

Rice is almost becoming worse than Emmitt Smith with this "not retiring" shit. You were the best receiver ever, stop tainting it. I understand he still wants to play but he's gotta look at himself in the mirror and realize he isn't that good anymore. When Keyshawn is better than you, you know it's time to hang em up

i would love if he came to TB i think he still has some left, unfourtunatly teams just dont have confidence in him, he may not be to fast now, but i know he can still catch it.

he needs to sign with a team they will let him play till he is ready to retire, it would be a shame if he had to retire because he was released

Didn't Rice request his release from the 'Hawks?

I don't think this will taint his repuation as the greatest WR of all time (currently), but I do think it's sad to watch. He's far past his prime. It's like Mays in the Mets uni, or numerous other greats that I'm blanking on even though I was ready to recite them when I clicked the "reply" button. Sure, maybe he's still got something left in the tank, but I think it's time to hang up the cleats.

Seeing MJ in a Washington Wizards jersey is sad. But in Jordan's case, he stepped away from the game (twice) and regretted his decision. If Rice has enough desire to play then he should. I would rather see him keep playing than retire and decide to come back later.

True, retiring and coming back looks even worse.
