Yes...it's time to play everyone's favorite game show...LIFE ADVICE FROM STRANGERS!
To anyone who is a regular reader, it is somewhat known that my life the last 12 months has been nothing short of disaster. I have decided, nearing my 1 year anniversary of multiple acts of disaster, to start life anew (is that a word, Mozilla seems to think so.)
Here is the deal:
I live in Southern California. I've been here for 2 1/2 years. I need to get the fuck out of here. I can move anywhere in the world, provided the following:
1) They have to let me move there without a job, though I should be able to prove I'm financially independent if that means anything. 2) They have to take my dog and I refuse to put him in quarantine for more than a day or two.
My current "career" involves me trading/investing stocks and I can do it from a computer anywhere, hence the "I can move anywhere".
What's important to me:
Music. I need to move to a big city where bands come through. Culture: There needs to be smart people, somewhere. I can't find any in my current city, at least around my age. Weather: I like the sun. I don't like the cold. Not a deal breaker but I much prefer sun.
My family is on the West Coast so it's probably best that I stay there. Places I have lived before and are off limits:
Las Vegas New Orleans New York City Southern California
OK - GO!

i humbly recommend nashville, tennessee.
1.) music: you dig wilco, fleet foxes, ryan adams, etc, correct? well, you'd dig the local music scene. the city is definitely big enough to have big acts, as well as good (though not necessarily big) acts in small, intimate venues. 2.) culture: a.) they have world-class restaurants, as well as awesome BBQ, soul food, creole, cajun, etc. b.) TONS of colleges around, including vanderbilt. c.) southern girls. as someone who has lived in damn near every region of the US, i can unequivocally say that the south has the best looking girls. d.) you're in the foothills of the appalachian mountains, and somewhat centrally located. 3.) weather: sun, warmth, etc. mild winters. 4.) cost of living: LOW. you could probably get a nice, relatively new 1200 sq foot, 2 bedroom apt for $700/month.
you could do a lot worse.
EDIT: plus, you'd be the first jew to ever live in tennessee. so, you know, there's that.

Funny...my friend said Nashville too. I'm a New York Jew (who isn't religious at all) and I spent 4 years in New Orleans in college. I'm not sure I want to go back to the south.
It's not a bad idea though, actually. I like the culture and I like the music scene. It seems better than Oregon, Seattle, Austin, etc.

the Tempe/Phoenix area might have what you are looking for.
really? this is just Vegas without the sin.
It's west coast, bands generally come through the place, and there is A LOT of sun. There are also a few smart people scattered throughout.
And if you want to see some pretty girls, just walk through the downtown Tempe/ASU region just about any time of the year; it's a good sight, my friend.
