i don't have time for my own write up, so i'll use wikipedia here. i love this film, especially in 3D (get to your local IMAX if you can and it's showing).
The Nightmare Before Christmas is a 1993 stop motion fantasy film directed by Henry Selick and produced/co-written by Tim Burton. It tells the story of Jack Skellington, a being from "Halloween Town" who opens a portal to "Christmas Town".
"Halloween Town" is a dream world filled with citizens such as deformed monsters, ghosts, ghouls, goblins, vampires, werewolves, and witches. Jack Skellington ("The Pumpkin King") leads them in a frightful celebration every Halloween, but he has grown tired of the same routine year after year. Wandering in the forest outside the town center, he accidentally opens a portal to "Christmas Town". Impressed by the feeling and style of Christmas, Jack presents his findings and his (somewhat limited) understanding of the holiday to the Halloween Town residents. They fail to grasp his meaning and compare everything he says to their idea of Halloween. He reluctantly decides to play along and announces that they will take over Christmas.

I prefer animated features like this and Corpse Bride over the Pixar shit. I also can't wait to see Coraline next year.
This is a fun Christmas film, only I usually watch it over Thanksgiving because it is right between Halloween and Christmas. Oh well. But yeah, I usually pick one day out of my break to sit down and watch movies all day and this one of them.

At risk of getting flamed, I watched this movie a couple weeks ago for the first time and it fell pretty flat for me. I think I saw a lot of potential that wasn't capitalized on, I guess (and I could have done without the musical numbers). I normally love Tim Burton (my God, Beetlejuice should be in the hall of fame, if such a thing exists for movies, and Big Fish was unbelievably good, as well as Edward Scissorhands, Sleepy Hollow, Batman, etc.), but for some reason this one didn't resonate with me. I haven't seen Corpse Bride yet, but I still want to. I'd give TNBC 2.5/5. No offense to you fans out there!

When I was a kid, this movie and any episode of the Jetsons would always always always put me to sleep. I don't really know why, because this is actually a pretty interesting movie. The Jetsons was probably just boring.
