Okay, this is kind of long, bear with me..
I teach special ed, and one of my 12 kids, we'll call her "S", lived across the street from my old house with her dad, older sister, younger brother and uncle, and last night their house burned down. To the ground. It's ALL gone..
I went today and saw the gutted house, and dad who collapsed in my arms, sobbing, asking, "What are we going to do Debra??"
Done and Done.
I have a lot of people locally helping, they have a place to stay for now, but I know that so many people get gift cards they never use/don't really need this time of year, and I really want this family to be able to rebuild and regain a sense of control in their life and be able to choose what they rebuild with.
So if you want to change 5 lives, let me know, and if not, keep them in your thoughts/prayers please.
My heart breaks and I know that shit is tight everywhere and the economy sucks and there's probably a ton of people here in our Jamily that need help too, so either way, just PM me and let me know.
I will do whatever it takes to help the people I love, and I love and respect this father, and my student's situation so much.

Oh yeah, that's what I was thinking. Probably takes care of situations like this. Homeowners insurance that is. Sucks that all the irreplaceable possessions are lost, but at least everyone is okay. Insurance companies have a lot of money. They should take care of it.

Insurance will take care of the house, true. I imagine there's a lot of psychological shit to deal with though losing all your personal stuff, and being out of a home a week before Christmas. Sounds like you're doing everything to help these folks in the short-term Debra, which is when they'll need it most, and that's an awesome thing for you to do.
