Wow, this was really good. I saw it over the weekend.
If you saw "City of God" a few years ago, you'll probably like this. It has that raw feel of the slums of India. It's definitely not as violent as City of God, but it was really entertaining.
And i don't think i'm being biased because i'm indian. I hope this movie does well if it gets in the oscar nomination. The kids were really, really good actors.

it was good. probably won't watch it again, but i'm glad i saw it. the dancing during the credits, totally undid everything the movie did for me though.

Danny Boyle's parting tribute to Bollywood. Spose it's a film about India- you're pretty much obliged to have an ending with a dance. I found The Darjeeling Limited to be a bit off-putting when Wes Anderson neglected to close it up with a dance.

yeah but when you're invested in characters who were made real by a movie, all that goes in the shitter when they start dancing like enrique iglacias. i don't care if the movie was in india, a dance number in a train station doesn't help tell the story one bit, i would say it hurts the story. the movie really moved me, and it all turned fake when the dance number started. it really really really bothered me

Spose I grew up as a kid spending a fair few Saturday nights at my Indian best mate's place where a Bollywood movie was a bit of a routine, so it didn't seem at all weird to me. Among other settings, I've seen closing numbers by a beach, a major downtown crossing, a wrecking yard and on an airport tarmac.
A dance number in Indian movies is like oversized eyes and boobs in Japanese anime- you're gonna get it, like it or not.

I thought it was good. It was mildly spoiled for me because it was mildly similar to a movie that I saw the day before I saw Slumdog Millionaire, named Chop Shop. In all of the places that it was similar to Chop Shop, it wasn't as good. I enjoyed myself, though. And I liked the ending.

Interesting...I heard Chop Shop was also good

Why was the host so opposed to Jamal winning the big prize? Just an ego thing? (He noted he was a 'rags-to-riches' story...he wanted to be the only one?)
When he was in the bathroom with Jamal, and said, "'just do the right thing' and you'll be almost as rich as me" ---- did he mean A) answer 'B' from the mirror, get it right and win the game, or B) I'm giving you the WRONG answer, so miss it, and I'll give u some cash... I assumed 'A', but my wife read it as 'B'.

Saw this tonight, and it really didn't do much for me. It was an interesting way of telling a story, but the story itself didn't interest me. I'm kind of with Hinny in that I liked it the children's part of the story more than when they were adults. The "love story" didn't cut it for me at all.

I enjoyed this film, and it was pretty heartwarming. The acting and directing was superb, even if the story was a little bit too fantastical. I think that this is what stops this film from being 5 stars - you have a pretty much incredible story joined with gritty Danny Boyle direction - although it was interesting to see the two interact, I suppose
