Gamestop has them for $60 used. I have an xbox and a 360, so I really would only be interested in the ps2 exclusives. The metal gear series, gran tourismo, and maybe final fantasy. Also, how well do old ps games play?

Also, have people had any problems with them crapping out? Anybody still playing them?

seeing as it is the greatest video game system ever...yes. get one. i've been rollin with my slim since those things came out and it's been all good. ps2 has more good games available than any other system, so there'll be plenty to keep you busy.

I would also recommend:

God Of War 1&2
Ratchet and Clank Series (Not Size Matters - it was a PSP port)
ICO and Shadow of the Colossus

Final Fantsy XII is a "greatest hit" now, so you can get it for like $30. I'd highly recommend you scoop that shit up.

I think I'll go get it this weekend. I plan on getting Metal Gear 2 & 3, Gran Turismo 4.

For anyone with an HDTV, how does it look over the standard composite cables? Is there a big improvement with component cables?

Man up and buy a PS3 instead. Wait and save money if you have to. Buying a PS2 at this point seems like a waste.

there's definitely an improvement. it's much more crisp, but you can see jaggies a lot clearer

in my experience, they've all played flawlessly on the ps2. the graphics obviously won't look quite as great as you remember. hang out to that stuff if you still have it.

it's kind of shocking throwing in a ps1 game like silent hill and seeing how "bad" the graphics look today. definitely hang on to you ps1 gems. i can't believe how rare final fantasy 7 has become

I went to go get one and they were out of stock. As far as getting a PS3 goes, that would be nice, but it looks like they've killed all PS2 backwards compatibility. I think I still have Final Fantasy VII from when I used to play it on an emulator.

Does that version of MGS 3 include the Subsistence features? The only feature I really care about is the full 3D camera.

yeah, it has disc one of Subsistence, so you get 3d camera, but it doesn't have the 2nd disc, which has the nes Metal Gears and some other bonus stuff you probably don't care about.
