Pearl Jam should do a nine show tour and at each show play one album (plus Lost Dogs) in its entirety. What do you think?

local h did this in chicago this year.

i don't know. i'll admit, i'm a song collector, and it would be kind of exciting to know i was finally going to see a song like "other side" live, but i honestly like not knowing what i'll get. a show like turin, italy, (i think avocado was played in order) would bore me. hearing the opening notes of hard to imagine this summer at msg is an ineffable moment. i don't think it would have been nearly as special if i knew it was coming because it was the next track on lost dogs.

Hearing the openning notes of HTI at Mansfield 1 this year was pure bliss.

Hearing the opening notes of hard to imagine when it was still a rarity was pure bliss.

Yeah, I was one of only a handful of people that even seemed to know what the song was when I first saw it live back in '98.

I like the idea of the one album show. Add all the Lost Dogs and b-sides to whichever album's production they came from and that would make for some very interesting shows.

They played it a few times on a very small tour. I wouldn't say it's a very common song all of a sudden.

Definitely. It's only been played 31 times ever.

I think that if the band was to try to play a 9 show tour and do a different whole album in its entirety each night there would be a lot of fuck-ups because it would be tough for them to polish off all of that material and nail it all off 9 shows in a row. It would be totally rad if they did, but quite challenging!

I'd rather they have tour where at some point every song in the catalogue is played at least once. It would make the last show or two a tad more predictable, but it'd still be awesome.

has the song changed since it lost its "rarity" status? and if not, why does it matter if it was a rarity?

I've only seen 4 shows and it has opened 3 of them so for me the novelty is wearing off, especially when you are longing for release or long road.

Hard to Imagine I will never get tired of, play it every goddamn show for all I care I love it.
Openers headrd by myself:
Show 1: Wash
Show 2: Severed Hand
Show 3: Wash
Show 4: Severed Hand
Show 5: Hard To Imagine
Show 6: Release

As far as the thread topic, I'm all for full albums during shows. That's how I listen to music anyway, never random songs. However, why not make it a 9 date tour with three legitimate sets each?
Set One: Electric set shortened from the normal 17-18 trax
Set Two: Acoustic set with an album in its entirety
Set Three: Truncated electric set
Encore: One song, fuck it can be YL every show with sets like that

Flip flop one and two if need be, but I like a mid show acoustic set myself.

For the last show, which would be made up of 2/3s rarities:
Set One: Lost Dogs disc one
Set Two: Lost Dogs disc two
Set Three: Covers
Encore: One Note

7/3/03: Release
7/11/03 acoustic set:Long Road
7/11/03 main set: Can't Keep
9/28/04: Release
5/12/06: Wasted Reprise

My openers:

3/26/94- Rearviewmirror
9/17/95- Animal
10/4/96- Long Road
9/6/98- Long Road
9/1/05 acoustic set- I Believe In Miracles
9/1/05 show proper- Given To Fly
6/27/08- Can't Keep
6/28/08- Hard To Imagine
6/30/08- Wash

I was super pumped to finally hear Wash, but I still need Release. ( And I guess Oceans since those are the last two on the album for me.)

HTI was very cool when I saw it in 98. The MSG opener this year was nice, but I had seen it on a setlist already for the tour so the novelty was not quite there, and then again at Mansfield a few days later, it was still cool (as I love the song) but didn't mean as much to me. I try not to be a jaded fan after seeing a bunch of shows, and I pretty much never complain about setlists.

34 shows and the unique openers I have seen are: Long Road, Hard To Imagine, Release, Oceans, Wash, Corduroy, Elderly Woman, I Am Mine, Love Boat Captain, Go, Sometimes, Of The Girl, Can't Keep, Breakerfall, Crazy Mary, Wasted Reprise, Severed Hand.

I take it you were at Albany 03 and 06 too.

Wilco did this during a 5 night stint in Chicago; I think it's a great idea. Wilco did not play an album a night or albums in their entirety, rather played just about their whole catalog over the course of those 5 nights; similar to what PJ did with the 3 Boston gigs in 2003.

Also, Sonic Youth pretty much does this with each tour....The last few times I saw 'em, they played the entire album, plus a few other songs from different albums.

Mission Of Burma recently did this for their "Vs." album.

I remember a couple of days before I left for Canada in 2005, I couldn't resist to check some setlists. When I saw Hard to Imagine on the Calgary setlist, I had to double-check. That just couldn't be true. Seeing it then was so totally unexpected, so surreal. Must be the same for people who saw it in 98. I mean, it disappeared from 94-98 and 98-2005. But since then, it hasn't disappeared of the setlists. No, it wasn't a regular, but it's been played every year and the totally out-of-the-blue feeling has gone.

And with that, I didn't want to say anything bad about the song, absolutely not, I just wanted to state once more that the 05 tour was the best they ever did in a way that just further shows me as a total elitist snob fan.
