What the hell is this movie? I have noticed it has been in the top ten on Amazons DVD sales for quite awhile now, and it is at number 1 right now. Even after reading descriptions and reviews of the movie I can't figuire out what it is about. It has a shitty score on IMDB, and I haven't noticed it in retail stores, and I have never heard one person talk about it in the real world, but it seems to be selling like hotcakes on Amazon. Anyone know what the bleep this movie is?

It's more of a philosophical "what is life all about" examination into our existance in this universe than a conventional film. If you're in the mood, it'll probably change your life. If you're not, you'll think this is the worst thing you've ever spent your time and money on.

So what did it do for you? Does it play like a documentary, or like a straight up fictional film? Is it a bunch of interviews or is it actors playing a role to get a point across? Is it the new wave Scientology? I guess I will just have to see it, because everything I read about it is confusing the hell out of me.

I walked out. This was the only time I've ever walked out of a film I paid good money for, and I've seen some TERRIBLE films. It has a fictional bent in that it has "characters", but it then starts going into all these "scientific" theories that manages to make Scientology look sensible.

Basic premise is that people create their own realities, and it uses a bunch of stuff to back this up, but not really explaing anything. This is a the work of a postmodernist gone mad.

Hinny,

Did you see the part where the scientist claims we can split with our energy or something? That was the only thing I saw from the move. I didn't entirley get it and I think its what turned me off. I was feeling like it was crazy and trying to figure out the point of it all.

Man, I'm taking that movie out of my Netflix Queue!

This is a movie funded by a group of religiously like-minded individuals [read: cult] to spread their view, albeit a positive one, to the world. Most of the "experts" quoted in the film do not even speak to their areas of expertise, and the one who did is mad as hell that his quotes were taken out of context.

The philosophical center of the movie is given by a lady who channels a 40,000 year old male warrior spirit named Ramtha. Nobody even says anything about this in the movie. The only way you know is if you watch all the way to the end of the movie she is credited as "Ramtha as channeled by J.Z. Knight." When Ms. Knight speaks as Ramtha she has this deep, heavily accented voice.

I too got this from Netflix because it looked like an interesting scientific documentary. Its not. I watched it all the way to the end because I couldn't believe how this trainwreck of a "film" could keep getting worse. At one point an "expert" poses the question, "Why can't we walk on water?" He believes that we can; it is only a matter of positive mental energy, but humans are in too negative a place to do it.

This is a cult classic, but not in the usual sense of the word.

I very much disliked the film. Most everyone that I know hated the film as well. There are a few things that might interest some people. There are some good "quantum physics for dummies" moments if that interests you. But if you already have a grasp about this stuff, it's BORING as hell. I can see how this film might appeal to a wider group of people who normally dont think about this kind of stuff or are too wrapped up in their daily lives to give it any thought. But I dunno....I just found the film uninteresting, boring and too presumptuous.

I agree.

Go watch "Baraka" instead.

I can't believe your biggest complaint is that it is boring. That gives this flick too much credence. The whole thing is a sham.

The actress, Marlee Matlin, is actually deaf. She does speak with a strange voice. I can't recall if that was her voice in the film. Mostly I've just tried to avoid remembering about this massive waste of time.

actually, it was very interesting and thought provoking. needs a few viewings i think.

and i disagree with all the criticism in this thread. there is alot of truth in this movie, you just need to be open to it.

No T, there is not.

It just happens the strange concepts of quantum physics seem kind of "magical" and "crazy" to most people and the filmmakers take advantage of that. So yeah, they fooled you by throwing a lot of shitty pseudo-scientific rethorics.

I'll get my quantum physics from the quantum physicists, thank you very much. I have very little confidence that anybody would be able to both come up with a scientifically sound metaphysical interpretation and make a good movie.
