You're hardly going to get the chance to indulge an academic interest in that kind of depth once you have a family to support and a mortgage to pay off.

I'm toying with a masters in law and asking myself the same questions. I think the real question is what will I regret more 20 years from now. Doing it or not doing it?

Having a masters and not utilizing it (per say) will always be better than deciding to not put in the effort to do it. It's an achievement whether you use it or not.
