I use cinema to mean the place i watch movies. Although the portuguese word for movie is filme, i leave film to mean the material.

Most people use “film” and “movie” interchangeably. “Film” is more often used when considering artistic, theoretical, or technical aspects, as studies in a university class. “Movies” more often refers to entertainment or commercial aspects, as where to go for fun on a date. For example, a book titled “How to Read a Film” would be about the aesthetics or theory of film, while “Lets Go to the Movies” would be about the history of entertaining movies. “Motion pictures” or “Moving pictures” are films and movies.

i had this debate with myself for some time now. To me it is a joke now. That is why sometimes i introduce films on here as "cinematic motion pictures" or "moving pictures" as a goof. Since I'm going to school for watching films I'm going to say films more often than not. But sometimes i like saying, "im going to the movies" because it sounds so traditional.

okay i lied. I have to write about them too.

Now, if anyone tells me "it is just a movie", I just shake my head and smugly say, "you don't understand"

They don't really use film that much anymore though.
