I've learned to appreciate them more with age and really don't dislike any of their songs. Solid band.

"Tuesday's Gone" is on the radio as I type this.... I like LS quite a bit, I have not delved too deep into their albums yet. I still think that ABB is a better version of LS though.

I listened to Skynyrd more than any other band throughout high school. They are the band that helped me develop my musical taste. It's unfortunate that stereotypes and overplayed songs seem to keep them from earning the proper respect. Part of this is probably due to the reincarnation of the band that has since turned in to nothing more than a tribute band. The original band really let their music transcend any of the labels applied to them while they now definitely pander to the more mindless, redneck crowd. Unfortunately, Johnny Van Zant has never been able to remotely match his brother, Ronnie, either. Ronnie took rather simple words and still made them into something intelligent or meaningful.

As for the music itself, 'Pronounced' is obviously their masterpiece, and each album has its own personality. Street Survivors would have to be the most interesting and haunting, though. Steve Gaines was crazy talented and was going to be something else. I really believe the band was just getting started when it all ended the way it did.

I don't listen to them all that much anymore. Partly, it's because I've become burnt out, but I have also become more focused on continually discovering new music. Still, no band probably means as much to me today as this one.

Lynyrd Skynyrd reminds me of 311 and sublime.... not musically though.

generally, i think 311 and sublime are cool. but people whose favorite bands are any of these are generally pretty lame.

I know a guy who is a hardcore 311 fan and he is a hardcore douche too so you may be right....still I don't know that I'd put LS in the same breath as those bands....I get that you were commenting more on the fans than the music but LS has like 6 all time classic tunes that will still be on the radio 50 years from now. Those other bands aren't in the same league. LS was a great band.

:nice: , also kudos to lefty. anyone who takes the time and thought to assess their favorite band doesn't need to prove shit to me.

That's a JJ Cale song, though.

Have you listened to either band? The both come from the blues but their other influences are obviously very different.
ABB has some serious jazz and r&b leanings and Skynyrd is much more straight forward southern rock.

You are right in your assessment that ABB is a better band . They were a band of world class musicians. ALOT of people think they are the best(technically speaking) band ever. I have heard alot of comments to the effect of "Nobdy could touch the Allman's when they were on"

ABB is a musicianship lovers band
Skynyrd is a song lovers band
