Not a big fan of mix CDs in general, but I put this together for a drive to Vegas. I think the songs and order are pretty good, but I'm always curious what this board thinks. I mean, I basically think it's the dopest ever.
1)Achilles Last Stand 2)The Rain Song 3)Thank You 4)Your Time Is Gonna Come 5)Hey Hey What Can I Do 6)Stairway To Heaven 7)Tangerine 8 )That's The Way 9)Ten Years Gone 10)Gallows Pole 11)No Quarter 12)Tea For One

Show me a one-cd Zeppelin mix that isn't, zeb, because I'm not sure it's possible.
Absolutely.
I really like that mix. I'd prolly get rid of Tea For One and Thank You (I love the song, but not on mixes for some reason), and add Since I've Been Loving You, and Over the Hills......

I'll follow what has been said regarding Tea for One. If you have an extra space on the disc, try squeezing in the Lemon Song or What is What should Never Be or Travelling Riverside Blues to demonstrate the power of JPJ.

First of all, like everyone said, it is absolutely impossible to make a one disc Zeppelin mix. I ran out of space as it was with this one... I think I ended up cutting In The Light.
And I love What is and What should Never Be, but I've played it to death. Kinda taking a break from it right now.
damn though, no love for Tea for One from anyone?? I know it's kinda the same song as Since I've Been Loving You, but I'm starting to like Tea for One a little more. That's the thing with Zeppelin though, different songs hit you at different times. I was never a big fan of III before, but I'm starting to think Since I've Been Loving You>Out On the Tiles>Gallows Pole>Tangerine>That's The way might be the best stretch they have on any of their albums

Led Zeppelin can have about 9 different mix cds
one of slower ballady songs one of heavy rockers one of blues songs one of epic opuseseses one of fun, upbeat songs two of "hits" one of mid tempo rockers underappreciated by the world one of instrumental virtuosity. and so on.
If you're going to have a 10+ minute song on a Zep mix then it should be In My Time Of Dying.
2)The Rain Song
Unfuckwithable, although might not be the right place in the mix. The flow between this and ALS doesn't sound particularly smooth.
3)Thank You
Another great selection. Maybe could have moved to the second half of the mix, given that this is a road mix.
4)Your Time Is Gonna Come
A great follow up to Thank You but not a song that I'd choose for a Zep mix, not least because of the abrupt cut at the end due to overlap with Black Mountain Side.
5)Hey Hey What Can I Do
Nice tune but not a standout.
6)Stairway To Heaven
Weird segue with track five but obviously an amazing song. First half is not roadtrip material but who fucking cares, right?
7)Tangerine
Second tier.
8 )That's The Way
No complaints here.
9)Ten Years Gone
Top five Zep song here, so again, no complaints. Except for the cut between this and That's The Way. Maybe add a two second gap between each of these tracks?
10)Gallows Pole
Second tier. 11)No Quarter
No problems with track eleven other than maybe the intro will be a little on the quiet side for a roadtrip mix.
12)Tea For One
Strictly worse than Since I've Been Loving You, which has already been correctly mentioned.

1)Achilles Last Stand
I agree with Zeb
2)The Rain Song
This is a "headphone" song. I don't think it would fare well on a road trip, especially since there will be too much subtle sounds you'll be missing through car speakers. If you need a relaxer, I'd go with California instead.
3)Thank You
Another great selection. Maybe could have moved to the second half of the mix, given that this is a road mix.
4)Your Time Is Gonna Come
I never liked this song and always thought it was one of Zep's weakest.
5)Hey Hey What Can I Do
What Zeb said.
6)Stairway To Heaven Good choice for when it starts to get dark.
7)Tangerine This I approve of for a car trip.
8 )That's The Way Good choice.
9)Ten Years Gone
One of my favorite tracks. This is a good choice.
10)Gallows Pole One of Zep's most successful progressive tracks. I think this is a great choice. 11)No Quarter Another headphone song. If you've got the right equipment, go for it. This would fare well when it gets dark.
12)Tea For One
It's ok for Zep standards, but it's been done before, and much better on "Since".
My suggestions would be to replace: #1 with In My Time of Dying #2 with Celebration or Tiles (rain song is a poor fit) #4 with Gonna Leave You #11 with Levee
If I could make my own mix, I would start from scratch. A good car mix would have a variety of powerful songs that attack all angles of the band.
