You Must See This Movie: Let The Right One In
Rarely does a film transcend its genre in the way that Tomas Alfredson’s Let The Right One In does. Based on a novel by John Ajvide Lindqvist, this must see Swedish coming of age vampire film is about a twelve year old boy who befriends a girl in the apartment next to him. But little does he know, she’s actually a vampire. Don’t let that scare you away. The movie is not a traditional horror film, it’s a relationship story about an introverted girl who teaches a shy bullied kid how to stand up for himself. It’s sweet in every way you wouldn’t expect. Beautiful and haunting, Let The Right One In is a film you must see.
The film is currently making the film festival rounds, but I’m not sure the extent of its theatrical run. I’m guessing it will be released in a few art houses. I know that it will be playing in New York City on October 24th. Magnolia’s genre arm Magnet owns the distribution rights, so it will eventually be released on DVD. I’ll try to update the site when the information becomes available, so that everyone will have a chance to see this film. Stick it on your netflix list RIGHT NOW!
I’ve included the movie’s film festival trailer below, but believe me, it’s much better than the sum of the clips below.

A fragile, anxious boy, 12-year-old Oskar is regularly bullied by his stronger classmates but never strikes back. The lonely boy’s wish for a friend seems to come true when he meets Eli, also 12, who moves in next door to him with her father. A pale, serious young girl, she only comes out at night and doesn’t seem affected by the freezing temperatures.
Coinciding with Eli’s arrival is a series of inexplicable disappearances and murders. Blood seems to be the common denominator – and for an introverted boy like Oskar, who is fascinated by gruesome stories, it doesn’t take long before he figures out that Eli is a vampire. But by now a subtle romance has blossomed between Oskar and Eli, and she gives him the strength to fight back against his aggressors. Oskar becomes increasingly aware of the tragic, inhuman dimension of Eli’s plight, but cannot bring himself to forsake her. Frozen forever in a twelve-year-old’s body, with all the burgeoning feelings and confused emotions of a young adolescent, Eli knows that she can only continue to live if she keeps on moving. But when Oskar faces his darkest hour, Eli returns to defend him the only way she can …

rarely do i want to watch a horror film after basing it mostly from the shock value of the trailers, its editing and scream factor. But you always get those rare ones that seem to go for the story, like this one.

Alright, I feel more guilty than ever for watching films online, but damn it is so easy!
I was thinking of watching this after I take my shower. OR, I was thinking of watching McCabe and Mrs. Miller (1971) which I got for christmas. I don't know. Whatever it is I'll be giving my input for this film sometime I'm sure.

Aside from the cat scene (which wasn't all that bad), I was incredibly impressed with the effects. I love movies that show things indirectly and this one did that so well. And like you said, the story was just perfect.

When it comes to American awards, Sweden is so stupid. Almost every critic association across the U.S. has picked this film for the best foreign language film (hell, best film period), but the Swedes are not fond of the horror genre and haven't put it up for possible nominations with the Globes or Oscars. Are you serious, Swedes?
