My band split recently. There were different ideas of what we wanted the band to do. Some wanted to keep playin covers(along with originals when time permitted) and despite being a pretty damn good band and pulling in a crowd every place we had the chance to play, it never got too far off the ground, in the five years the band was in existence. The so-called leader of the band is convinced thats the only way to be successful as a small town musician. Apparently he hasn't heard of the internet.
Now, the 3 of us leftovers are looking at making some music, puttin it out there, try gettin some gigs, and see where that takes us. We have no desire or delusions of making the big time. I would love to make music for a living and that is the final goal, but for now we are gonna take our time and make these songs as good as possible.
We have a few song sketches and a couple jams that are pretty spontaneous. Not really sure how to describe it other than rock, but it's not exactly straight up a'la ACDC.
Anyway, hows about some feedback??, and plz don't be too harsh if it's not your thing. These are obviously not of the greatest quality, both performance wise and recording, but definitely better than alot of homemade stuff I hear.
These are the first few songs any of us has written, so pointers would be appreciated, as would any bonus points for the parts you think are cooler.
I have a feeling you're trying something progressive and maybe a bit experimental. Anyway. 1. Maybe you guys wanna start by playing all the same song at the same time 2. Work on tuning the guitars before starting to play 3. One guitar noodling random bends in the upper regions doesn't help much either 4. If you wanna try rhythm changes, definitely work on that. The little of a song there is falls apart with it.
But yeah, keep it up. I'm sure you'll improve over time. Maybe you'll get even more better than the shitty homerecordings you must have heard.

Thanks for the critique. Did you listen to anything besides Later or Orign of Species. Those are just jams that we happened to record. We were basically trying to generate some new ideas off of some ideas we already had, with Later and Origin of species we just kinda started to fuck around with and it got recorded.
Seamist, Still Not There, and Feelin the Same are what we have noodled with. If those are the songs you are talkin about, then.............damn. There are some rough spots in these, too.
Any critiques and pointers about any of it is cool, but that is the stuff that is more in line with what we are doin.

So I also listened to seamist now, which sounds a bit better. Reminds me of Jane's A a lot, maybe a bit too much, and yeah, many rough spots. The mixing could be a lot better, the vocals sometimes don't seem to happen in the same song as the music and the song itself doesn't seem to be going anywhere. Ending is a bit uninspired. It's a nice listen, but... I'd definitely work on those songs some more.

I actually had other people say that, too. I'm guessin it's the singer, b/c I've never been a Jane's fan, aside from a few songs. I have visions of it being pretty cool once all of the other parts are added and it is streamlined a little more.
Your comments inspired me to go back and listen the "jams" and while they are fun to listen to, for me, gettin a cyber kick to the face like that is appreciated.

Oh you're very welcome. Seriously, work on those songs, they have potential, the jams, too, once you've all got your shit figured out about them. And yeah, I know that, despite not liking it at first, pretty much brutal honesty has helped me in the past to get a clearer vision of my songs and to keep on working on them and myself. You took it a lot better than I thought, that's cool
