So I've noticed a new trend lately. It seems that ever since Obama got elected, a lot of people I know have become a little too comfy making racist remarks. Most of these folks were McCain boosters, and were upset that an african-american was now going to be president. They are not friends, per se, but they are people I know well and tend to respect. They were always a little racist, but now it's more overt and the jabs are a little more pointed. I'm not black, but I find it just as offensive as I would if I was. I mean, I get my share of spic jokes directed at me, but even those have gotten a little out of hand lately. I don't know, am I being too sensitive, or is this really happening? If it keeps going, won't it just get too difficult to contain? Anyone else experiencing this?

Give it a couple weeks. If it persists, run them over in the parking lot with a stolen van.

i havent really noticed an increase to be honest. the racist people i know were always racist, this is just the first time they can be racist about the president. i always break their balls and say "he's as much white as he is black", seems to ruffle their feathers

thats what cracks me up, the media and everyone is, this is our first black president, yet hes half and half

it also perturbs me when i see black people use the term cracker or whitey to describe a white guy, (mtv made, i wanna be a dancer/hip hop artist are good for this) and theres no outrage. just cause the word cracker or whitey never made it popular in terms of derogatory names for white people doesnt make its use any less offensive.

can you imagine if there was an mtv i wanna be made, i want to be a chess club champion, and someone called a urban youth, darkie or blackie?

I think I hear it, or at least sense it sometimes. But racial jokes can be pretty harmless. And pretty godamn funny. Most people I know say them. Black and White. Just gotta know the who's where's and when's to says them. Nah mean?

I mean, we all make handicap jokes too. They're hilarious. Does that mean we should stop making them if Stephen Hawking gets elected President?

I understand, but man, my skin is only so thick. I live by the 'if you can't say something nice' credo. I guess I'm a little surprised that it's still as prevalent as it is these days. I thought we were more evolved than this.

Yeah, one of my best friends sends at least 2 or 3 a day. I grew up with this guy and had no idea he was this bigoted. Another one uses the 'n' word without a thought. I just had higher hopes for the society I'm throwing my daughter into.

Oh, and the Steven Hawking stuff? I like where that's going. Someone should shop a big helicopter prop onto a pic of him and have him flying through the air doing good deeds like that montage at the end of the simpsons episode where moe gets that powered parachute thing.

White people being called "cracker" would matter to them if it meant they weren't getting jobs or home loans. It's easy to take a joke if it has no bearing on what you can do in life.

Yeah, and the best is that basically anything you do to that guy would be an improvement.

there is a flip side to that coin. Listening to countless Obama supporters crying, "I never thought i'd see the day." What day? "That a black man would be president." Oh great! Bring race into it! What a historical day!

God, let the man be president based on his views.
