During my third summer in Jakarta, I was working in the port dockyard, assessing incoming vessels and instructing them in the docking and relaunching process. It was a stressful nonstop job that allowed little room for error, so i developed a nervous twitch of my left eye.
one day at lunch, i met my friends Davian and Roni for a scrod sandwich at The Portsman's Bungalow. i was digging into my delicious meal and talking about the last night's sunset and shooting stars with my good friends. then i twitched, and in the process inadverantly winked at Davian, who misinterpreted the signal as a come-on. i defended my heterosexuality to Davian but he was.. well.. he lost it. he punched Roni and I repeatedly in the face for disgracing his wonderful nation and i left the dockyard ashamed and confused
taht evening i argued with my girlfriend. she said i shoud not have quit my job and stayed down at the docks. Japita, a tattoo artist, was a difficult woman. she often displayed a dislike to americans but held a special spot in her heart for me. i told her i would leave her, i HAD to leave her, because i could no longer provide her with jewels and sandals that she loved, but not before she gave me a tattoo. she often communicated with the spirits and the heavens prior to working, so she looked deep into the essence of my being and communicated with the spirits hovering above me.
i received a tattoo of a tree with strange icons circling it. to this day i don't know waht they mean. i have spent years trying to return to Japita, but i fear she might be gone.

i resorbed balki when we were twins sharing the same womb. balki's original incarnation on RM was only balki 'trying to be born' and haunting the internet like a stubborn siamese cat.
