sir, i like you. i think you have a real ... i don't know... "way" about you. the way your hair toussles in the breeze and your eyes squintze against all just so much sunlight, like the only thing in the world that makes sense to you is off in the distance. this is no world for dreamers like you and i. we are made for bigger things. better things. our destiny lies not in the mechanical, toiling world of man, but in the afterworld, the bright tunnel that ends in a victory, in a triumph, in a song. yes... you and i are kindred spirits. and the best we can do is make sense of this crazy, crazy, fucked up world. please... look into my eyes and tell me i'm not slipping away. i need this. i need .... us.

here in the state (mostly in the western, rural regions), we have something called "Round the Globe," in which a group of a dozen or so young people (aged 8 to 14) run in circles around a collapsed well while music is playing. when the music stops, one of the people is pushed into the well and left for dead. the "game" actually occurs before the music begins, where a group of these children (picked as "leaders") gathers to decide the one person who will be pushed into the well. then, this person is lied to by the leaders, who say that somebody else will go in the well. but when time comes, the person who was chosen is surprised to find herself/himself stuck in a well.

my older brother was one of the unlucky ones. my parents started The Richard Caudill Foundation, in memory of Ricky.
