The Strokes: 'We've started writing our fourth album'

The Strokes' frontman Julian Casablancas and guitarist Nick Valensi have started writing new material for their band's forthcoming new album, which they are set to start work on next month.

Drummer Fabrizio Moretti, speaking after a gig with his side-project Little Joy, told BBC 6music that although the band members had not finalised plans for their fourth LP's recording, the songwriting process had begun.

"Julian has started writing and Nick has got some material as well," he said. "We're the kind of band that it's not finished until everyone's in one room and everyone's got their parts perfectly. We're a very mechanical band."

NME.COM had previously revealed that the band would reconvene in February for album sessions. "I don't think it's a reunion," Moretti said, "we're constantly in each other's lives."

The band's last album was 'First Impressions Of Earth', released in January 2006.

I don't care how often they put albums out (though 3+ years is too long), but they really need to tour more often. When you get these guys in a small (1500 or less) venue, the energy is amazing.

So I just read that one of the guys in the band said their new album might be released in September.

I need some new stuff from this band after hearing Casablancas' solo album.

RIP The Strokes?

Basically says they're only doing the festivals for money and they're tracking separately for the new album. Album now won't be out until January, if then.

I like The Strokes alright and all, but it's been years since they put out an album. Their sound isn't exactly something that takes long to record. :/

did you ever read interviews about them recording? they are incredibly specific about their "sound", to the point where they sound like weirdos

Yah, he just said he listens to a song 1000 times during mixing.

Yah, he just said he listens to a song 1000 times during mixing.

Unless the musician is a bonafide genius in the studio (Wilson, Eno), I don't seek out how an album was recorded. I might have to search for these interviews if I'm in need of some lulz, though.
