does this describe you like it probably describes me?
"The problem is that I am an ungrateful product of a prosperous society - the offal of opportunity. I am just another liberal arts graduate who bought the idea that life and career would be a fulfilling intellectual journey. Unfortunately, I am performing a glorified of punching the time clock, and the financial rewards don't come anywhere near filling the emotional void of such diminished expectations."

i agree. i'm hoping for some really terrible terrorist attack or a foreign invasion because these young whippersnappers don't value anything and won't understand how lucky they are until their safety and freedom are threatened.

i don't disagree. i don't think it changes anything though
Honestly, I don't really blame you guys. I just think if you were born sometime in the 80s or so, this country sold you a bill of goods that led you into expecting fulfillment and enrichment from your jobs. Not to mention the fact that the way degrees are obtained in the Unversity systems has very little bearing on what happens in reality, career-wise... unless you get a degree in something very specialized, or 'cutting edge' as far as what the market requires at the time.
It's something of a crapshoot in my opinion because you could get a degree in computer programming and assume you're money when it comes time to find a job, but when the market crashes, no one wants programmers, they want sales people or whatever.
I think sooner or later everyone feels like they are just 'punching the clock' like you mention - unless you're very lucky.

that won't do it. these value-less liberal freaks fighting for gay rights and all that crap need a real wake-up call. maybe we should send 'em to iraq.

I think we're thinking of different values perhaps.

I don't give a fuck how old Dan Dennett is, I'm saying that you're wrong in making stupid comments: "these young whippersnappers don't value anything and won't understand how lucky they are until their safety and freedom are threatened."

This assumes it's a generation gap. It's not.
the generation gap isn't the cause, it's a correlation, i think. it doesn't really matter, though, because it's not my comment.
