I've grappled with this myself. I tend to use :haha: when I am mockingly laughing at someone/something, whereas :lol: is more I've been caught off guard and am cracking up at something.

If I could make one request though: could the :) be banished from the board and replaced with :D for the standard smiley? I fucking hate :), it looks so fucking stupid.
