Lie To Me is an American television series premiering on the Fox television network on January 21, 2009. Main character Dr. Cal Lightman (played by Tim Roth) detects deception by observing body language, and uses this talent to assist law enforcement with the help of his group of researchers and psychologists. The character is based on Paul Ekman, notable psychologist and expert on body language and facial expressions.

I just watched the pilot, and oh boy, it was great.
I wasnt expecting something THAT interesting, but its, they really managed to start very well.
If they sustain this of quality i'll be a big fan.

Check it guys.

I think the premise looks interesting and I love Tim Roth, but on top of all that it's got Kelli Williams too. I've had a huge crush on her ever since The Practice, and FINALLY she's back on TV! I've been waiting for this for years. She last was in that short lived (and rightly so, it wasn't very good) "Medical Investigation", my face totally lit up when I saw her included in the preview I saw.

Only thing is, the characters better be very interesting and complex, because I have a feeling the machinations of figuring out if someone's lying can get repetitive and a little old after not too long.

but the pilot was badass

The pilot was pretty cool. Except him examining every persons movement and word lol. I can see this getting extremely repetitive and annoying.

EDIT: Never mind, got it. I enjoyed the show, but I do think that it will start to become boring. It's basically a show about a guy who analyzes the facial expressions of people who are overacting. Interesting idea, but probably tough to make interesting when people are acting. I liked it, though. I probably will never see it again, seeing as how it's at the same time as LOST and I lose my DVD-R next week.

I really enjoyed it, i hope it keeps going.
The things I didn't like: the obvious twitched that were probably meant to be not-so-obvious that are then zoomed in upon. Reminds me of when FOX put a trail on the puck for NHL games so Americans could follow it.

Also they're doing the same thing CSI does. Over-explaining often simple things.

Also, they need a hotter sidekick than that chick. She's average.

Anyone else draw the comparisons between Roth's character and a certain grumpy doctor that's also on Fox? They did say that there's an infantecimal amount of people who can always tell when someone is lying.

Well, House does have the T-shirt.

Bring back FoxTrax!!!

It was pretty hard not to. House is brutally honest, Roth is a perfect liar. But they both are social outcasts for their truth and honesty. Medical mystery vs. police mystery. Same thing, really. The acting was fine, the story a bit shitty, but it was a pilot and there was an inordinate amount of exposition that had to take place. Maybe it will be better when that's all out of the way.

I'll watch it next week, but I was underwhelmed. It was basically the love child of House and Criminal Intent. Also, I'm getting kind of sick of the "montage to lame acoustic music" that is at the end of every episode of House, Grey Anatomy, a half dozen other shows, and now this one. Find a new formula, people!

Heeeeeeeeyyyyy.... I regrettably assume you're talkin about my girlie Kelli Williams there -- bite your tongue mister!! :P Granted perhaps she's got a few more miles on her from her starting days on "The Practice" but c'mon, she's still a cutie! :P

Oh but as to the House comparisons, yea one part of a review I happen to catch the other day totally pointed that out.

Y'know, that's one thing I'm hot and cold on. Given the right song and right moment, it totally works, but that's uber rare.
Conversely, I liked Shaun Ryan's approach to the Shield. Not music at the end. He felt that music at the end of a show almost dictated how you should feel at the conclusion of the story. So, at the end of every ep., it'd just be silence, which added sooo much to what you just experienced.

And actually ya know isn't just perfect that both of my future wives have not only the same initials as each other -- but also the same initials as ME! (Kelli Williams & Kate Winslet... + Kevin W.) ha! :P

After two episodes this show officially bugs the fuck out of me. Every single moment of that guy describing facial gestures is fucking painful. Cool concept, perhaps not capable of being good in reality though. It's another new B grade show that uses decent actors to gain some respect. If someone manages to watch the whole season without feeling like a fucktard, i'd be impressed.

Well, and despite the multitude of "real life celebrity" images they cut away to supposedly making further evidence to what the doctor is saying, I'm sorry in the everyday world it just does not seem like people generally make that dramatic or elaborate of facial gestures when they lie. So in that regard it seems quite a bit over the top to me.

But I mean hell I said this in one of the first posts, if it didn't have VERY interesting and compelling characters to fall back on, the machinations of detecting the lies could get very repetitive and thus possibly boring after not very long.
