why people continually jerk off to fatal when discussing binaural tracklisting... i think that's easily worse than any song on the album, and it's not really all that good lyrically either...
sad, i can understand that one, but fatal...
(in my opinion)

Sad and Fatal are 2 outstanding B-sides. Including them only would've enhanced the record. I can tolerate Thin Air and NAIS when the mood strikes, but those two in particular strike me as songs that should've been left off in favor of Sad and Fatal.

This must at least in part be directed towards me. Sad is a great song. Fatal is a very solid song and a significant step up from Thin Air in my opinion. That's pretty much it. TA bores me to tears where Fatal does not. Like I said in that thread about my problem with Binural I just think there are several songs that are either boring or just plain not very good. Sad and Fatal are each better than at least 5-6 songs on Binural in my opinion. To each his own obviously, I just completely disagree that the 13 songs on Binural are each better than Fatal. By a long shot too.

Actually I just listened to Fatal and Thin Air back. Thin Air isn't that bad. I just prefer Fatal, and since they both probably don't belong on one album together I just like Fatal better.

this wasn't really directed at anyone, just at the general sentiment that seems pretty prevalent here
i like thin air a lot better than fatal... nais can be hit or miss, it has the same feel as fatal in some ways to me.
i would say sad is a very good song, actually it is somewhat surprising it was left off, but that's the only one i think was a bad choice to leave off(and at that, it's still my 3rd favorite pj album i think).

I think I'd like Thin Air more if it was a harder song. I guess its just a little too wimpy with the acoustic guitar thing. The melody for the verse, chorus, and bridge are all fairly good, but it just lacks that punch in the gut I've come to expect from all great PJ songs. Maybe it has to do with the rhythm of the song in general. Melodically its quite cool, but it feels like they didn't finish it all the way.
Fatal, on the other hand, has a great rhythmic delivery in the verse lyrics, and the prechorus "I wait up and wake up" parts that lead into the chorus are really cool. Fatal just sounds like a better ballad than Thin Air.

Thin Air may not be a great song but it doesn't disturb the album at all. A "low key" track can find it's place on an album. Fatal is deffinitelly one of the best ballads Stone ever wrote. It should have been on the record (instead of NAIS). Sad and Education should have been there too. They're dynamic and catchy. Sad particularly reminds me of something Stip wrote in the new album thread about WWS, how many PJ songs are danceable?

That is a great way of looking at Binaural and this school of thought. To me, Binaural is a darker album and Fatal fits that mood perfectly. On top of that, Fatal is one of the best acoustic style tracks Stone has written.

Like, I said, I can tolerate it if I'm in the mood for it. I'm not saying its awful or anything. My biggest complaint is that instead of positioning it during a quiet encore, it was used as the "breather" track a few times during concerts. You know. You get 5 or 6 songs in with an amazing set and then they play NAIS, which, like Sleight of Hand, can be a set killer based on how "mellow" they are in the beginning.

I like it as the breather song.
