This guy was on my radar before he ever joined Bruce Springsteen on stage, but I had only one album, Bourbonitis Blues. Great album, so I don't know why I didn't get more. After he joined Bruce I added the song Always a Friend to my collection. Anyway, saw AE at the Harley fest. I wish I knew more than the 3 or so songs I knew. Can't wait to see him live again and be really familiar with his collection. I've picked up two more albums, A Man Under the Influence and Real Animal. Both are quite good. A Man Under The Influence is probably my favorite of the three. Thought I would mention him here and his website http://alejandroescovedo.com

He's touring now, so some might have the chance to catch him live.

Some of his songs are just tearing me up. More people should listen to him.

Over his career you could use americana, tex-mex, and rock to describe him. If one likes Bruce Springsteen, Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams, Son Volt, etc. they may like him too.

Whoa. Cool about your kid's bday party.

One thing that struck me about him live was his enthusiasm, friendliness, and honesty.

Yeah, you should. I know he has at least 3 concerts scheduled for Austin in the next few months.

No Depression picks “Real Animal” as Number 1 Record of 2008

AND THE WINNER IS….

Turns out that Barack Obama wasn’t the only runaway victor Bruce Springsteen made it his personal business to champion and support in 2008. The winner of our sixth or seventh annual critics’ poll (depending on who’s counting) – and by a margin of exactly twice as many points as the closest contender – is Alejandro Escovedo’s Real Animal.

It was on April 14 that Escovedo – who just a couple weeks earlier had signed on with Springsteen’s management team – suddenly appeared onstage during the encore of an E Street Band concert in Houston, sharing the spotlight with Bruce as they sang together on “Always A Friend”, the exuberant single from Real Animal (which would be released a month later). A live recording of the song from that night later was included on a digital-only Magic Tour Highlights EP to benefit the Danny Federici Melanoma Fund (named for the longtime Springsteen keyboardist who passed away on April 17).

Yeah, I would love to see him at some small place. The first (and only) time I saw him was his set before Bruce at Harley fest. Now, I'll see him at the roo.

I listened to Real Animal for the first time yesterday, and it is indeed one hell of an album.

Yes, it is. I think it's probably my second favorite album of his.
