I know them rocc niccas released a bunch of live shows through their web site and people bought em up like cracc

but could they pull off a Radiohead and just give the next studio album away for free and expect enough donations to cover costs?

I would not donate a dime for their next album.

There are some artists that I would pay money to just to get them to stop making new material.

I think the Radiohead way, or even better: the NIN way, could work very well for them. First you have the devoted fans who will do anything no matter what (look at how much money people are willing to spend for the new Ten). And then you get a lot of sympathy from people who are not fans but want to support this kind of "fuck big corporations" initiatives. Of course when more and more "big" bands will do it this way it won't have the same effect, but if you're among the first you'll benefit a lot.

It'll be interesting to see what they charge for the new album since they'll sell it directly from their website.

They'll probably sign a distribution deal like Radiohead did.

What's wrong? There aren't any artists you wouldn't pay to never hear of again? I would be so quick to give Miley Cyrus a dollar so she could sew her mouth up.

I don't see the problem with not donating any money to the band. They put it up for free didn't they?

why would anyone pay to have someone stop making music when all they have to do is stop listening? it's real easy to avoid music you don't like.

Anyway, I'm not sure I understand the question.

I don't think they need to do things differently from other bands in regards to releasing their material.

pay for downloads:
iTunes
Amazon
Verizon
Website
emusic (pj is indie?)

Purchase actual CDs at the usual places including special fan club only release.

What's the big deal? Are they implying they're going to do something different?

why would anyone care what someone else does with their own money? it's real easy to do what you want with your own money.

Anyway, I'm not sure why people around here take things so literally.

Indie labels aren't doing too badly. There's a ton of bands I wish would ditch the mainstream, and go with a smaller label.
