Yeah Yeah Yeahs to release new album next year
Yeah Yeah Yeahs have revealed they will release their third album next year, and are claiming it will sound "very different" to their previous efforts.
The New York band have posted a new blog on their MySpace page, explaining that they are close to finishing the new album, which will be their first since 2006's 'Show Your Bones'.
"New record is getting closer to being done done done!" they wrote. "You still won't be hearing it until 2009 but damn, are we close to finishing it, and only after a year of writing and recording!
"Will it sound kind of like 'Show Your Bones'? No, been there done that. What about [2007 EP] 'Is Is'? Is that more of the direction it's going in? Absolutely not, it sounds VERY different.
"Did we go back to our roots and write something closer to [2003 debut] 'Fever to Tell'? No looking back now silly, just full speed ahead.
"What does it sound like? Not much like anything you've heard from us before. Does it sound like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs? You bet your sweet ass it does.
"We can hardly wait ourselves, we miss all of you and we've been working extra hard on this one with the intention to make you as happy as possible. Just wanted to drop a line to let you in on how quickly we're approaching the finishing line and to GET PSYYYYYYYYYYYYCHED."

New Yeah Yeah Yeahs Album: It's Blitz
We knew the Yeah Yeah Yeahs were holed up working on their third album, and now we actually know something about that album. Namely, the title.
Earlier today, a piece of news appeared on the YYYs website. According to the band, the album will be out this spring. And according to the raccoon with blood on its mouth (and verified by the band's publicist), the next YYYs album will be called It's Blitz.
This album can't come soon enough.

That appetizing photo you see above is the cover for It's Blitz! (yes, the title has an exclamation point now), the third album from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Mastodon, Neko Case, and Morrissey better watch their backs, because the Best Cover Art of the Year race is getting tight.
The trio recorded It's Blitz! with two producers: TV on the Radio's David Sitek, who did production work on the last two albums, and Nick Launay, who co-produced the 2007 Is Is EP along with the band. But the band didn't do everything the same. For one thing, guitarist Nick Zinner plays a whole lot of vintage synths on this thing. For another, according to a press release, the band began the writing process "in the middle of a snowstorm, in a hundred-year-old barn in rural Massachusetts." So that probably messed with their formula a bit.
Interscope will release It's Blitz! sometime this spring UPDATE: The release date is April 14, as Spin reports. And the album has guests! TVOTR frontman Tunde Adebimpe sings on one song, with Kyp Malone adding (seriously) tambourine. Other guests include Antibalas saxophonist and TVOTR sideman Stuart Bogie, YYYs touring member Imaad Wasif, and the bird and the bee's Greg Kurstin.
Some of the album's song titles: "Skeletons", "Heads Will Roll", "Soft Shock". Spooky! The first single, "Zero", is unfortunately not a Smashing Pumpkins cover. But it does have this excellent artwork.
---
Yeah Yeah Yeahs return this April with their third album, 'It's Blitz!'.
The album's cover is available to view now, to the right of this page.
'It's Blitz!' is set to come out on April 13, with a single - 'Zero' - released on April 6.
The album was produced by the band's long-term producer Dave Sitek, along with Nick Launay.
Launay was yesterday (February 11) revealed to be producing he next Cribs album.
'It's Blitz!''s tracklisting is:
'Zero' 'Heads Will Roll' 'Soft Shock' 'Skeletons' 'Dull Life' 'Shame And Fortune' 'Runaway' 'Dragon Queen' 'Hysteric' 'Little Shadow'

Yes, and I read they will tour! . The last time and my first went wrong, because they played at 3 in the night and I couldn't stay awake that long, so I gave up about an hour in advance. I still want to see them!
groetjes, Mirella

just finished my first listen and i'm gonna have to say that i found it pretty hit or miss... some amazing parts here and there, but a lot of tracks had dull spots leading up to those great parts it seemed.
it's not bad or anything, but this record makes me feel this band is suffering from an identity crisis...
