i neutralized a fight between a protestant and a catholic. then watched that catholic begin a breakup with his girlfriend. I almost ended up in the middle of that. i should stay inside, like i've been doing.

I'm saying this as someone who has never been to Ireland, but I believe most of it has nothing to do with religious beliefs and everything to do with two groups that have been fighting each other over political power for so long that no one trusts each other or remembers which group is acting as a reactionary.

this guy was caught up on the strife. i explained that both religions centered on forgiveness and the strife ends when you forgive.

Wrong. The argument centers on whether the appropriate accented delivery is "feckin" or "fookin."

Protestantism is German actually.
There was some Dutch fellow involved in exporting it as well. It's pretty 'big' here too. In the south more people are catholic. And in the area where I live it used to be mixed, but the villages and cities alternated between being dominantly catholic and dominantly protestant. That way they had extra reasons to fight each other .

Well historically the Dutch aren't very well thought of here 'cos they came to the aid of the British and helped them with the battle of the boyne (kinda the crux of the whole argument here) but the joke is, it happened hundreds of years ago! 1690 to be exact...it's nuts anyone could still be annoyed about it but thankfully we've moved on here, almost completely. That being said i still like a bit of brit bashing(meaning english, the rest are ok) and like seeing them losing especially in Rugby, but it's a national pastime in Wales Ireland and Scotland so it's not just us. We're all from the same Celtic people people but they're Norman/Saxons..they're kinda shifty or somethin haha.
i've never been to Holland..I must go sometime.
