I have a question for you guys:

When you find yourself walking through your street, riding on your bus, waiting at your bank, driving on your highway or enjoying the view from your balcony, do you ever wonder how many of the people you encounter are active members of the internet? I am not talking about the regular gmail/facebook/sports and news blog surfers here...I'm talking about people that really utilize the internet. members of online communities such as this one.

It's like a secret society where you don't know any of the members in public. That beautiful girl in the bank line could have a hipinion account. That well dressed man hailing a taxi could be thinking about second life that very moment. you just never know.

I do this. And then you hear them slip an internet meme into conversation and you're like "they know." I remember the first time my roommate said FAIL about something. It was weird.

I think "fail" has become so ubiquitous as to lose it's internet value now, but I def. know what you mean. I hear "fail" coming from some of my second grade kids here at the school...surely they aren't posting at 4chan...are they?

I work for a news radio station and one of our anchors did a news tease yesterday about some public official who fucked something up and it went "...and a big FAIL for (whoever it was)"

I was all "lol".

I figured as much. I think if you use "fail" irl these days, then it is actually you who has failed.
