Academy Award nominee Gus Van Sant directs Academy Award winner Sean Penn as gay rights icon Harvey Milk. Mr. Milk (1930-1978) was an activist and politician, and the first openly gay man to be elected to public office in America; in 1977, he was voted to the city supervisors' board of San Francisco. The following year, both he and the city's mayor George Moscone were shot to death by another city supervisor, Dan White. Mr. Milk was previously the subject of the Academy Award-winning documentary feature "The Times of Harvey Milk," but "Milk" -- filmed on location in San Francisco -- is the first non-documentary feature to explore the man's life and career. It looks great, and also features Emille Hirsch.

Finally Gus Van Zant is putting the gay in a movie that requires it.

just saw this and it was one of the most intensely emotional films I've ever seen. I was holding back tears as much as I could a few times.

I still think this was better than Slumdog. Great acting all around in this one, especially Emile Hirsch.

Great movie. Sean was amazing in it. Everyone was.

Depressing that we still deal with the same fucking issues in the US 40 years later.

Brilliant. I adore this movie. Intense, emotional, and so damn sad in the end.

I enjoyed this one. The documentary about Harvey Milk, The Times of Harvey Milk, was slightly more effective, but this was still good. Penn, Franco, Brolin, and Hirsch (four of my favorite actors right now, hell four of everyone's favorite actors right now) were great as expected.
Spoiler: show
Hilarious moment when Dan White is drunk at Milk's birthday party, and Milk's boyfriend Jack comes up to them. So perfect by Brolin. "Latino man."

Yeah, Brolin was great at that moment. I literally had to laugh out loud at him. I really want to see the documentary as well.

I quite liked it. Sean deserved his oscar for it, and Emile, yeah, great.

Great flick. I loved it. Makes me cry for the passage of Prop 8.

Got this for my birthday - genius.
Is there a movie where Sean Penn isn't amazing?
