I've set it up so that this is a 172 song competition, the songs came from the song list on pearl jam.com. They consist of the songs from the 8 studio releases, 1 B-side Compilations disc (entitled: Lost Dogs), songs that were just released as singles, the 16 10Club Holiday Singles, the two songs from the Singles Soundtrack, and then to top off the 172 song list I added the songs that were titled "PJ Original" but they can't be found on any media.
If you'd like to see the list where I got the songs from, you can go to: https://www.pearljam.com/music/songs. The only Cover Songs that I've included in this tournament are songs that were released by the 10Club for the Holiday Singles.
Now onto the Brackets and the rules to this tournament:
I've divided up the 172 songs into 4 groups (43 songs each). Each bracket was given the unofficial name of 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008. I gave them these titles because I gave the number one seed in each of these brackets to the March Madness champion of that year, I also gave those songs a bye through the 1st and 2nd rounds (denoted on the graphic as Champion Provisional.
The Top Ten Songs in each bracket was ranked by pearljamfan80, and then 11-43 were randomly sorted by the website random.org.
With an odd number in each bracket, I had to come up with what I found as a good and unique way to get this tournament down to the Final Four and then to the Champion of all 172 songs.
This is what I came up with, 1st Round will have 14 matches of 3 songs in each match. (Song A versus Song B versus Song C).
After the 1st round all future rounds will just be a duel, Song A versus Song B.
When we get the champion of all 4 brackets the final four will be like this, the Winner of Bracket 2005 and 2007 will face off against each other, then the winner of Bracket 2006 and 2008 will face off.

I know I'm being extremely picky but is there a better color for the font than red? I'm having a hard time seeing some of the songs. Otherwise, great work.

Hey stip, any seeding issues in any of the brackets? (I hand picked #s2-10 in each)
lowlight may be too high, but there is no easy way to do this so I wouldn't worry too much about it
it is a little hard to read Rick. But I think that is more a reflection of how crowded the first round is. I would definitley think about actually typing out the round I matches for people so it is clear what songs are up against what.

Yeah, that's what I meant earlier. The red font isn't easy to read on some of those brackets.

I tried to add board opinion into my seedings. Otherwise you'd have songs like Spin the Black Circle and Blood as #2/3 seeds.

my suggestion is that you don't go for what is pretty. You want clarity. The pictures in the back are nice but we might be better off without them.
ahhh--that last post you put up while I was typing was perfect

I just wanted to do something a little different than the other single elimination tournaments that flood the board, I mean after all this is the ANNUAL March Madness Tournament.

Did pearljamfan80 use any sort of method to rank the songs #2-10? Betterman's ranked lower than like 30 songs (like Light Years?)? And how's Stupid Mop at #13?
I mean no disrespect. I'm sure this took a ton of work. Just wondering. I'm probably reading this wrong anyway.
Anyway, I want Betterman to win this time. It's become my favorite PJ song.

Really the rankings mean jack-shit, sorry for the language, but I was doing this for fun. I asked pearljamfan80 to look over the 43 songs in each of the brackets and rank 2-10 (because I didn't want end up having a MAJOR match up happen in the first round). So yes, some of it might be personal bias on his part, but really if I would have gotten somebody else to do it or even if I did it, you'd through in your own personal bias.
He worked in board likes for the top 2-10 songs in his rankings, but he is only human and so the human element of bias definitely probably showed into his picks. But it really doesn't matter. I don't think I have major songs matching up against each other in the first round.
As for your question of how Stupid Mop is #13, I'll tell you that after I recieved the top 10 for each bracket, I took the rest of the songs 11-43 and just plugged them into the website (random.org) and randomized the rest of the order (I think I even noted this in the header post, if not then here it is now.)

Nope just a matter of trying to get it too A) look like a regular tournament, and B) hopefully extending the MAJOR songs into the final stages, without any major matches in the first round.
