What it is: The RM Interview Series is a way to get to know other members of the board and hopefully bring the community together a bit. Every few days or so, a new interview will start and an old interview will be locked and archived. Please try to keep this thread only about the person being interviewed. When it's your turn, you're welcome to talk about yourself as much as you want.
How it works: All questions and answers will stay in this stickied thread; all questions are optional however. When interest in the current person begins to die down, they will then choose (via PM) the next person to be interviewed. The person will also PM a mod to get the new interview started.
This is supposed to be fun! Hopefully there will be a mix of both serious and humorous questions (and answers!)

Yeah, go to Ohio University, majoring in Political Science and planning on minoring in History and Economics.
I'm envious. I wasted too many credits "sampling" other areas than minoring in a specific 2nd one like economics.
What's your purpose? Law school?

Well I'm real lucky in that I came into school with 20 credit hours for History from AP courses, so all I need to do to have a minor in it is to take 4 300 level classes(16 hours) and I'll have a history minor. I wasn't even planning on taking much more than intro economics til I found out I'm pretty good at it last quarter and I enjoy it... I was planning on doing a minor in Philosophy coming in, but I decided I could read that in my free time, and that Econ would probably be better for jobs than Philosophy.
As to future job potential/schooling, I'm not all that sure... I don't think I want to do law school, but I'm leaning towards doing Grad School... Working on campaigns/as a staffer for someone in office might be a good post-college job, as I know a few people who've done that. My dream job in the sector would be something like working in a think tank; I don't think I would ever want to be an actual politician, though.

Favorite author/book? Novel: It would be a 3 way tie between 1984, The Stranger, and The Great Gatsby. I don't know that I read enough to have a favorite author(as in, read enough works by one author... I don't know how many authors I've read more than 1 book by, but it's not a large number)
In terms of comics, my favorite author is by far Ed Brubaker. Man writes some great stories. And my two favorite works ever would probably be Brubaker's Sleeper and Alan Moore's Watchmen, with The Killing Joke and The Dark Knight Returns not far behind. But there are still many works I haven't read that I wish to(a ton of Vertigo stuff).
Philosopher? I love most everything I've read by Camus or about his philosophy, so it would be him by far. But I haven't read a ton of philosophy either.
Afterlife? I hope it's a reunion of you with all your family, everyone you've known, all your pets, etc, and a place of eternal peace and happiness. I hope. In a way, you'd become connected to everyone, and in another way, you'd still be yourself(although maybe purified to have lost some of the more selfish aspects of the personality). I dunno though.

So does everyone get this, or only people who are ethical? And how do you determine "everyone you've known"--shouldn't then by transitive properties you be with everyone, since everyone knows everyone somehow?
In terms of philosophers, if you want to understand anything modern, read Descartes. It's not terribly well written, but it set up the entire epistemological debate that dominated philosophy basically until Kant came along. Also, read Plato for an ancient background, and if you're brave, you can start looking at the existentialists: Kierkegaard and then Nietzsche. In terms of favorite philosopher though, Schoppenhauer will rock your world, and very easy to read.

yes, you'd be with everyone at once, essentially... i actually like the theory pd set up with an almost purification process on the way to heaven, so hell is not eternal. but of course, can i know? not possible, so i only hope, but i don't think about it too often, mostly when i'm drunk...
I've been thinking about reading The Republic, i'll probably do that some day(it might happen as part of a political thory class down the road anyway). The next philosophy I'm gonna read will probably be Ishmael over the Summer.
