Composer Dave Soldier and artists Komar & Melamid took an online poll on their website, and then used the data to scientifically compose “The Most Unwanted Song” of all time. The song is twenty-two minutes and features instruments like bagpipes, tubas and the banjo, with political slogans, advertising jingles and cowboy lyrics. They manage to translate into orchestral rock-band church-music punctuated with high pitched sounds and abrupt changes in pace and mood that they claim:
“Fewer than 200 individuals of the world’s total population will enjoy this.”
The fact is, it isn’t very difficult to listen to. The composers at least haven’t made the song so dense that you can’t distinguish the different instruments. Opera singing and children chanting must have rated low on their poll, for those are the vocals you hear throughout. Komar & Melamid had previously created the “People’s Choice Series” in 1994, consisting of the “most wanted” and “most unwanted” paintings of 11 countries.
What do you think? Is this the most unwanted song or have you heard worse?
I lost it at about 1:35 when the opera rapper hit.

I'd bet that 99% of people would find brutal death metal or experimental noise to be far more intolerable than that song. It's way too tame to be aurally offensive.

yeah but people like things that are aurally offensive too. it's the most unwanted song. your death metal or experimental noise is something that people like for standing out. it seems they didn't want to make the most unpleasant noise, but they wanted to take away all desirable traits from the composition. few people want to hear music for its blandness.

Yeah, you're absolutely right. I didn't really pay attention to that when I posted.
Still, I think they could make something much worse than that, something that absolutely noone would listen to.
