Greetings everyone, it is I - The Consultant.
I pray that your winter has been well and that you are looking forward to spring and to the women of summer. In case you are wondering, I wintered in a small island that I own off of the Galápagos Islands. If you are curious, I won the island in a poker game with Alan Thick. Long story, but let's say that he had poker pains instead of growing pains after that fateful day. If you weren't a fan of the 80s sitcom, you wouldn't understand my reference. I forgive you. Not everyone is as old or as wise as I - or experienced in the art of seduction I may add.
Moving on, I recently purchased a copy of the new album of Ten and I have to convey my shocking disappointment. I had Ferguson (my driver) drive me around whilst listening to the album and I do have to note that the subtle differences -particularly in the drums and bass in my opinion- just weren't worth all of the hype. I asked myself the query: why tamper with something that was so amazing for so long?
To add further evidence to my point I must give you all a scenario. Imagine you were with a very beautiful woman for the past 19 years and your love continued to grow and it is evident that your love will stand the test of time. One day, the girl gets fat and ugly and changes her perfume claiming that she has 'remade' herself. How would you feel? That was exactly how I felt in the back of my limo that sunny afternoon. It is very seldom that I am ever disappointed in a backseat of my car.
My above example probably isn't the greatest because I wouldn't be stupid enough to stay with the same woman for 19 years -let alone 19 days, but I wanted to give a scenario that everyday peasants like you would understand.
I will disregard going as far as saying that Pearl Jam is using these re-releases as a cash grab, but why exactly is this great band doing this? Keep in mind that I am in all likelihood the biggest sellout of my elite circle of powerful 'friends' and I have done everything (and I mean everything) to make a quick buck in life.

Possibly the lamest shit I've ever read.
But to answer the actual question you posed between silly anecdotes and metaphors, the band is doing this because this new mix really captures all the elements (both subtle and not) of the actual in-studio performances of these songs...rather than hiding some elements and (overdoing others) like the orginal mix does. And those who disagree with me now have a remastered version of the original mix...so everyone is happy.
