It just kind of hit me...
We've been saying that the "Alone" (b-side version) hails from the Ten sessions for ages, and I know that to be true...and yet, it showed up on the "Go" CD single...
I'm wondering if this song was touched-up/fixed-up/over-dubbed or whatever during the VS. sessions, though. Because it does show up on the "Go" CD single. I also say this because it sounds like this was the case for "Hold On"--a song also recorded during Ten but touched up during VS.--later released on Lost Dogs. The Lost Dogs liner notes say as much. Granted, to my ears, it totally sounds like Ten.
Again, I don't know the definitive answer.
What do y'all think?

Don't know where you've been hearing that, but I've never heard it here.

The b-side was recorded at the same sessions that yielded SOTAT, Breath and Even Flow all done after Dave A joined. The version on Lost Dogs was taken from the Ten sessions. It's been available on the Ten Rough Mixes boot that floated around for a while. It was touched up ( for the worse) during the Riot Act sessions.
Hold On was never anything during Vs. That particular liner note was corrected on the band's website.

Yep, this.
I might add the Lost Dogs version is the instrumental backing from the Ten-era version but with new vocals by Ed.
The original, unaltered version of Alone from the Ten sessions is my favourite studio recording of the song. I was hoping they'd put it on the Ten reissue but no dice.
