(obligatory apologies-if-this-thread-already-exists opening gambit)

So, as stated on the website the band are re-releasing their albums. What next for the Vs. release? Are there many unreleased songs? Will Vs. be remixed? What DVDs/Live shows do you reckon will be included?

Your thoughts, comrades, please!

Early HTI demo? That's all the excuse I need to pick this one up.

You need to be saving your money for a tour, no excuses Mr.! *wags finger*

I had an idea that got buried in the Ten thread, but what I'd like to see with the next reissue is a Vs/Vitalogy combo pack.

You know how the side of the Ten box says 1990-1992? If they kept that up, the next set could be 1993-1995 and include remastered CD/LPs of the two V records (no need for remixes), a double LP of selections from some live show that we don't have a soundboard of (so not the Fox Theatre show, no matter how awesome it is), a scrapbook and swag from that period, and a DVD of the 1995 movie.

They could price this just like the Ten set, so we wouldn't have to pay $300 for the next two album reissues.

That sounds like a pretty good idea :)

Perhaps a reproduced copy of the original Vitalogy book? (we can but dream  )

I agree with the combinations. The one after the V-albums would then be the Irons-box.

I'm not sure I'm necessarily intersted in remxies for the future albums (except for maybe Binaural and S/T). Actually that's not entirely true. I'd love remixes only because getting slightly different versions of familiar songs make them sound fresh again, even if the remixes aren't better or necessary (and they're not, at least for the next few records)

But if they don't go in the remix direction I'd love to see them open up the vault and include the unreleased tracks I'm sure exist, or possibly demos and early takes (a la the ten outtakes bootleg disc). Something that enables us to revist or rediscover the old records in a new way

I like the combo idea and I LOVE the inclusion of the vitalogy book.

I think if they do anything with the sound of the other records they should simply make them sound as good as it gets (CD or maye even some other superior digital media like SACD or DVD-Audio, they'll do vinyl anyway). The common practice with Sony's remasters doesn't suggets this. For example Yield on CD should be kept as it is but most likely is going to receive some massive compression, making it worst than the original. I'm not being pessimistic, this is just how the remastering logic of mayor labels seems to work.

someone just mentioned in the oceans unplugged thread that they should have matt re-record dave's drum parts on Vs and Vitalogy. They were being sarcastic but I kind of like that idea too. These are 15 year old songs at this point and the band has grown and changed quite a bit since then. It would be neat to see them rerecord today a lot of their old catalogue to see how their interpretations of the songs have changed (we get this with live shows but I almost always prefer studio). It is very possible (in fact almost certain) that this would usually be the for the worst, but it would be intersting and fun neverhteless.

I would like to see this on songs that have took a new slant live a la In My Tree, Who You Are and Present Tense. Aside from these, the only live improvement on any studio recording they've done in my eyes is Lukin - that song has always sounded wimpish and tame on No Code.

They should re-record everything but this time they should include Boom on every track. And they should feature his parts prominently when they mix everything.

That's exactly what I was thinking too. Although I'd be more than happy with the COMPLETE Fox Theatre on vinyl. Getting the 1995 movie on DVD may be asking for a lot as well, but that was easily make this way cooler than the Ten Re-issue.

Putting the "1990-1992" on the spine of the Ten deluxe edition seems like an odd choice, then.

Yeah, I think the rest will be something like a 2 CD version of each album. First CD: remastered version. Second CD: B-sides, rarities, outtakes. Probably a vinyl version, too. Hopefully we'll get some stuff that hasn't been released yet.

There is a version of Corduroy from 2006 during one of the shows with Tom Petty when Petty's keyboardist joined PJ for corduroy and there IS a little keyboard solo thing about 2/5ths into the song after the first chorus. You can find it on youtube I believe. It's pretty tight.
