I authored a Blu-Ray disc with the high-definition PJ appearances I 've captured or downloaded in the last few years. This includes SNL/Letterman 2006, Storytellers, Rock Honors: The Who, and REM w/ Ed at the R&R HOF . All of this stuff has been circulating, and I think there's a set of data dvds going around that play on a PS3 or computer. That's certainly a cheaper option, but I made this to start authoring real Blu-Ray discs.
I'm going to do as many B+Ps as I can stand. It might take a while since I have a job and a life, but it'll get done. If anyone here can burn BD-Rs and would like to help out, that would be much appreciated.
Oh yeah, if you don't like dual layer, I have good news -- it's a SINGLE layer (BD-R 25GB) disc
Some FYIs: - This was authored with Adobe Encore CS4. It was like pulling teeth and I really hope another BD Authoring program comes along that doesn't cost several thousand bucks. - Some stuff had to be re-encoded so that encore would accept them. see the info file. - I tested this on my own Panasonic BD-35 player and it worked great. Should work on a PS3 but I didn't test it. - I haven't tested it on any other players - It worked great on a Verbatim 4x BD-R disc, I haven't tested any other media. I did tests on a BD-RE (thats the rewritable kind) and some clips were glitchy. This wasn't a problem on the BD-R, just the BD-RE
Finally, remember this is still very new. The blanks are expensive compared to DVDs or CDs (almost $10 singles or $65 for a 10pack ). It's not the cheapest way to get HD video on your TV but at it's a standard disc format with menus. It's possible that a burn will fail or it won't work in your player. I'll do my best to ensure good burns but I'm not going to eat the cost of bad burns, so just a heads-up.
I'm sure this will still be circulating in a few years when BD discs are a buck or two. Same thing happened with CDs and DVDs.

Notes:
This is my first attempt at authoring a Blu-Ray disc. The idea was to gather up all of the HD material I've been capturing and downloading, and put it in a standard format without re-encoding. As it turns out, some of the material was ready for authoring (SNL, Letterman, REM, the PJ-only VH1 Rock Honors), and some wasn't accepted by Encore due to MPEG-2 technical issues. I omitted the Life Wasted Music Video since it is official material and looked to be upconverted from SD anyways.
When authoring a Blu-Ray disc it becomes immediately apparent how much broadcasters are compressing these programs. If these performances are ever officially released, please buy them -- the picture and sound quality will be much better!
