not sure where i should post this, but considering i am mainly concerned about the sports programming i decided on here....
any opinions on which has the better service? i am leaning towards Dish network since they are cheaper and seem to have better packages (more for your money). not too concerned w/ movie channels etc.

I have Direct TV and love it. I had the NFL package last fall and have the Premium Sports' package for baseball regional games. I also have the HD receiver, so that adds about $5 on to the price. If you get local channels, you'll get the new Comcast network (replaced Fox) and WGN HD. I have three receivers (1 HD) and pay $60 a month (with the protection plan), which isn't bad. Also, my reception has never gone out (even through driving rain storms).
Their customer service is pretty good -- had a problem with my local HD antenna had they had someone out in a day to fix it without charging.

I had dishnetwork, before going back to cable. I would definitely say DirecTV if you're going the dish route, especially if you're worried about sports. The NFL package alone would make me go that way.

My parents had Dish Network for awhile and have just recently switched to DirectTV. So far, it's been much better. They used to lose the Dish in bad weather, even heavy winds sometimes would knock it out or make it fuzzy. Haven't had those problems with DirectTV.

My husband decided we were to have Dish Network. I hate it.
Its my impression from DirectTV users who are "into" the NFL, that DirectTV is the way to go.
That's all I know. Both are overpriced and one is forced to purchase additional channels in "package" deals because the broadcasters who own the channels in conjuntion with the cable companies (they also own) force it to be structured this way.
So if you want to spend over $49 per month for stuff that does not include HBO or Starz or stuff like that, and also pay for an NFL or NHL or MBL "ticket", you're going to spend a tone of money per month no matter which one you select.
