I stopped at a local gas station to pick up a very cheap six pack of beer, and a pack of just as cheap smokes, and a dude came and basically begged for some money for gas to get home. He was driving a late model Prius. I don't know how to feel about this. Gas isn't as expensive as it was a year ago, and I drive a relatively gas efficient car myself. I almost declined, but I gave him the dollar anyway. Did I get suckered or can I laugh at this guy without feeling guilty?

That's kinda weird. Even though gas isn't as high one dollar still doesn't really get you that far. Hmmm... the prius gets like 45mpg, a dollar gets you about half a gallon depending on where you are... So he can go about 22.5 miles on that. I guess it is possible. But still an odd scenario.

Yeah. I mean, I'm driving a Jetta wearing slacks and a button down on the days when I sub and I'm sure I look like I at least have enough money to buy gas. Thing is, some days I don't. I'm wearing the clothes because I am subbing for $50 a day and I'm barely making rent.

If I ask someone for a dollar, I'm sure they would react like you. I actually should have done this today so i could go through the toll booth instead of taking the long way home since I had absolutely no cash in my wallet.

Maybe he had a credit card for a different gas station but only had enough gas to roll into the one that five2one was at.

I had the same thing happen to me, no Prius, though.. I figured, what the fuck, here's a dollar. I stopped at the same gas station a couple of day later, and... yeah, same guy beggin' for another dollar.

I feel you brother, cuz I know you live around here and you know what gas is like, but this was just a guy in a T-shirt, and his buddy. I want to think that some kid borrowed mom's car and didn't realize how low the tank was, but his buddy buying the expensive gum inside the store ahead of me threw that whole scenario off. Getting home trumps fresh breath any day.
