How often do you actually have a meaningful conversation with someone each week? I'm talking about insight here, or some debate or dialogue about some issue of relevance in your life or someone elses? It seems to me that it isn't as easy to connect with people on this level as you would think, if day in and day out you are at a desk or in some other capacity at work or school. Small talk seems ubiquitous.

You're turning into ceebs.
I used to love having long winded deep philosophical discussions. Now they just tire the shit out of me. It's not that I don't care, well, it's that I don't care.

I'd like a poll, actually.
How often do you have a meaningful conversation in a week?
1. Never. 2. I sometimes do, but not every week. 3. I try to engage people often, but they are on average unreceptive. 4. I find that sort of discussion outside of "real life", but I perticipate in internet discussions. 5. I have joined a discussion group in my community for this specific purpose. 6. Often. Any chance I get.

As much as I moan about him, I like discussing things with my boyfriend because he's intelligent and for the most part, I learn a lot from him.
I wish my girlfriend thought the same. Really, the impetus behind this thread was a little tiff her and I had about how much I like to talk about "deep" things. It annoys her.

in the past week, i talked to one friend out of a "everything is meaningless" depression, talked to another about life pursuits and goals, talked to another about girlfriend troubles, ect.
i've talked politics, philosophy, religion, ect. with parents, siblings, friends, you people on the internet.
i usually just don't like small talk to much, i think that's why. when i meet people at parties, i generally get them talking about hopes and dreams rather than where they work/went to school/whatever.
i like the big questions, so that's what i talk about or relate through.
