I don't expect 2009 Pearl Jam to be 1993 Pearl Jam - doesn't mean I can't prefer 1993 Pearl Jam.
I like 1970 Black Sabbath more than 2009 Black Sabbath, does this mean I should just "get over" the differences and learn to love them now? Cause, like, now is NOW and TODAY, etc. Nah...
I'm perfectly in zen with my feelings about the band: I love the band's output from 1990-1998, after that, I could really take it or leave it. That's the band I'm a fan of, that's the band I love. Not who they are now, nor should I have to love who they are now to claim to be a fan.

They band are only coasting on the reputation they built up in their first eight years and I think they know it.
Oh, come on. Even judging by the copious amounts of utter crap and drivel out there, you would still judge a band as very mediocre on the back of those 3 albums?
Obviously this is the point of the whole message board, but I can't agree.

Hmm, yeah.
There's a lot of good music out there.
I can't help but feel a lot of fans judge them through Pearl Jam Goggles, ie: they judge them in the context of what else the band has done. When looked at in that way, you can be more forgiving of them.
The first five albums can stand alone without that, they're independently great albums - by Pearl Jam or by anyone. It's just good music, not just good music when viewed in the context of Pearl Jam's catalogue.

These are just old arguments/discussions with any band that has been around this long. its natural.
i think pearl jam have done ar eally fucking great job of moving forward, rather than looking back.
ACDC anyone? They have been pputting out the same record since day one.
Sure, some people prefer things others dont when it comes to pearl jam. Im lucky, and am very happy to still be along for the ride.
Is there other good music out there? Fuck yea. this isn't a competition though. All that means is I need a bigger fuckign Ipod for it all.
pearl jam dont cater to the general public. If nothing else, people who dont respect pearl jams musical output nowadays...at least give them that cause that means a lot nowadays.
After 10 years U2 finally put out an album that didnt sound like the last three. pearl jam has never retreaded on old grounds. Thank god.
I personally think they are all still very passionate about the music they put out there and do their best to please the fans.
And also, ive been to shows where the entire arena is singing along to sogns off the past three records, ive been to shows where friends hadn't heard a record since no code and have left converts.
So...
Whatever, its a message board. Everyone has an opinion. Just dont state your opinion as fact and we can all have a good discussion.
it is my opinion that matt cameron is the best drummer for the band, eds voice is better than it ever has been, they still write passionate, challenging music (avocado isn't very challening overall, but whatever...the previous two were not public friendly) and uh...i get my face rocked off at shows.
Also, im getting my face rocked off right now via my ipod by a minneapolis band called "the evening rig" so yea...

Roger Daltrey has the same voice after 45 years. Bono's is pretty good also. Ed's voice just can't hold up to the old stuff, when his vocals gave 100%. Then it again, it could be worse and you could be Robert Plant.
And LOL @ the ACDC comment. It really is the same shit over and over.

No No No. roger can NOT last an entire show. No way.
And bono has never pushed his voice the way ed has, completely different vocal style.
